Called Aunt Maude in morning. Cloudy and rainy. Boots and I went to Philadelphia for groceries. Snowed some off and on. Merrill went to Antwerp with Pat B to Northrups. Merrill put our candles and I put up Santa on door. got cards and notes from Beulah H and Mildred Beardsley.

We didn’t go to church. Very icy, sleet and rain storm. Took large limbs off every tree in front yard except dead elm tree. Power off over 6 hours in evening, 7 PM on. Put up Christmas decorations.

Our 38th anniversary. Jim, Pat, and Jolie here for supper. Brought us set of 8 glasses and candy. Mom’s doctor apt. She canceled, as it was snowing so hard at Lorraine. Pat B called and invited us over for supper. We plan to go Sunday.

Boots and I went to Philadelphia for groceries. Stopped at Mary’s with her Secret Pal gift on way home. I left gifts for hospital and note for bulletin at parsonage. No one home. I painted 4-H tree decoration white. Merrill worked at Horton’s.

I finished 4-H tree ornaments. Snowed a little last night. I sent some more Christmas cards. Got letter from June. They are coming Christmas day. Washed clothes. Shampooed my hair and put color rinse on it. Merrill worked at Horton’s. Sleet and cold.

Dumping station not working. Carl Horton helped Merrill take manure spreader apart. Very stormy all day. Snowing and windy. I made marshmallow fudge, Christmas cookies and cupcakes for shut ins. Wrapped 4-H gifts in evening, photo albums.

10 below zero this morning Patty and Jolie called. Merrill plowed driveways for first this fall. He went to Antwerp for a chain link. Got spreader working. Put up tree and decorated it. Washed my hair.

Packed shut in boxes, 1 PM. Lois and I did most of them. Vi came after school. She and Lois delivered some of them. Very stormy, freezing rain. Lots of accidents. Merrill worked at Horton’s in PM. Got groceries on way home.

Jim and Pat got new station wagon, tan color. 4-H party at Pickerts. 21 there. A very stormy night so several could not come. We took most of girls except Jamie. Merrill and I delivered rest. Very stormy all day. Roads slippery. I baked pies and Merrill got drain thawed out.

Mom called. Aunt Esther is back in hospital. Finished wrapping gifts today. Today would have been Donna’s 30th birthday. We went to church. Stopped at Halls on way home with Lorraine’s 4-H gifts. Very snowy in AM. Sunday School program at 7:30. We went. Made candy to dip after I got home.

Had our gifts to each other in evening. Christmas Eve Service, 8 PM. We went. Church full. Very nice service. Very cold all day. Merrill went to Mill and to Brenda’s. Sent Mom’s gift out with her. Dipped chocolate in AM. Sent Mom and Brenda some. Merrill took box of candy over to Halls, 3 pound box.

Vern’s and Jim’s got here about 2 PM. Jim’s here first. Very nice get together. Vern’s left their tree lights on so they had to go home. All left about 6:30 PM. Vern’s gave me Sunbeam mixer. Jim’s gave me nice beige slacks, gloves and pants. Dad got mostly clothes which he needed.

Our road terribly icy. Bob Eg went in ditch by Payne’s and couldn’t get up hill by Halls. They sanded about 11 AM. Merrill went up to work on Horton’s door in PM. I cleaned back room. Water came thru ceiling last night from ice. I got house straightened up.

I used my new mixer for first time to make an applesauce cake. It turned out good. Snowed about all day. Vi called a couple times. New Year’s Eve party at Claude and Leah’s. 12 there. Nice time. Got home at 2 AM.
