We got home from Mowers at 2:00 AM. Jim called from Newark at 8:30 AM. Because of storm, his luggage went on the wrong bus. He spent the night in the bus depot. He called at 8:00 AM & 1 :15 PM. Jim left McGuire AFB at 2:00 PM for France. Mom called. Vern called. They just got home. Merrill & I took out tree & decorations.

Wrote first letter to Jim to France. I made pies for Home Bureau. I have had headache all day.

Wrote Jim. Went to Home Bureau at Ruth Eggleston’s. I made pumpkin pies for dinner. Marg Mattingly here after meeting. Margaret Hudson entered hospital.

Merrill & I went to city. Ordered Jim’s pictures, $36.68. 1 colored 8X10, 4 colored 5X7, 12 black & whne wallet size. Talked with Mrs. Kiechle.

Washed clothes. Wrote Jim. Merrill & I went bowling in evening with Howard & Evelyn.

Didn’t go to church. I haven’t felt good all day.

Washed, ironed. Merrill started bath cupboard. Got hole into back room for vent. Washed my hair.

Got first letter from Jim from France. I went to W.S.C.S. at Vi’s. Mary & Charles Hall’s 30th anniversary. Evelyn, Mrs. Hale, & I went to hospital to see Margaret Hudson. Aunt Lou Whitford very bad. Saw Margaret Waters & Irma Welser. Hal & Jeff stayed with Merrill.

Finished ironing. I went to Rebekah’s. District Deputy President, Serina Sixberry, & members from Evans Mills present.

Cleaned my bedroom & closet. Merrill worked at cupboard. Wrote Jim, June & Vern.

Got 2nd letter from Jim. He is at Toul-Rosieres Air Base. Is near Nancy, France. Is 185 miles east of Paris. Merrill & I went to city for groceries. Snowed & blowed before we got home. Got letter from Uncle Berte.

Washed rest of Jim’s clothes. Baked cookies & fruit cake. Stormy all across United States. Margaret Waters called.

Very stormy. Didn’t go to church. Wrote letters to Jim & Mother Tryon. Made dipped chocolates. Merrill slept.

Very stormy all over. No mail or school. Lots of accidents because of storm. Made vegetable soup. Past Grands at Eva Delles, but I didn’t go.

Nice today. Got dug out some. Canceled truck insurance with Petrie. I have headache. Sent in colored film. Got 3rd letter from Jim. He is happy there. Jim’s first $25 War Bond came.

Very cold last night. 16° below. Aunt Lou Whitford, 76, died today. Wrote Jim, & Uncle Berle. Merrill took out accident & medical policy with American Agricultural, $30.00. Merrill finished bathroom cupboard. Washed clothes. Kenny Rudes called.

Washed my hair. I have had sore shoulder all day. Talked with Aunt Maude. Wrote Doreen & Mom.

Merrill & I stopped at Whitford’s on way to city. We went to Dairy Congress at Armory. Ken’s were there. Painted cupboards.

Doreen’s 6th birthday. Howard, Evelyn, & kids were over in evening for pizza & playing cards.

I went to church. Rainy. Kenny & Brenda didn’t come for dinner. Kenny’s shoulder was paining too much. Wrote Jim.

Got Christmas pictures. Washed & ironed. Started diet. Kenny called in evening. Very stormy out Adams way. Got letter from Beulah Hall.

Hair appointment at 1 :00 PM. Got it cut, washed, & set. Bad driving because of blowing snow.

I didn’t go to lodge. Too stormy. Made cookies & candy to send Jim. Cold & snowy. Lynn plowed driveways. Merrill helped unload hay at

I have headache. Very stormy all over. All roads blocked out of city, Reached here about 3:30. School kids couldn’t leave school. Sent air mail package to Jim. 7 pounds cost $5.79 postage. Sent Jim letter. Sent for license tabs.

Home Bureau fish lesson at city. Was called off because of storms. Merrill & I went to Antwerp & Gouverneur for groceries. Paid land taxes & got dog license. Roads good Gouverneur way.

Got letter from Jim. Cold in France. Watertown area declared in a state of emergency because of storm. Howard & Evelyn, Fred & Danny, Merrill & I went to city bowling. Lots of snow out there. It has snowed 22 of last 32 days.

Joan Hatch & Jim Allen married today. More snow. Snowing hard. I didn’t go to church. Jefferson County snow mentioned on World News broadcasts on radio & TV.

Got driveways opened up again. Jefferson County getting about dug out from 70 inches of snow. No school today. Took pictures of snow. Joyce Griffin called about W.S.C.S ..

Got 2900 pounds of coal. Merrill went over to help Howard get furnace going. Evelyn came over in evening to telephone furnace man. Wrote Jim & finished Sunday letter I had started to him. Nice day.

Things are back to normal after big snow storm in county. Still cleaning up snow banks. Cold. Below zero.

Last day of a very stormy January. Today is nice. Cold. Washed my hair. Got long letter from Jim. Still cold in France. Merrill got hair cut. Took Joan’s Christmas present to her.

Beautiful day but cold. Got letter from Jim. He got his package in 4 days. Merrill & I went to city. Got TV antenna, $6.00. Got black sneakers, $1.79. Got slide projector with 1 book of green stamps. Got 18 bags for vac. cleaner. Wrote Jim.

Cleaned. Not very good day. Blowing snow in morning. Rained in PM & evening. Bill & Vi were coming down but weather changed their minds.

Very icy & cold. I went to church. They sanded road while I was to church. Vi said Joan Hatch & Jim Allen were married last January 27, 1963.

Wrote Vern & June. Washed clothes. Mopped & waxed kitchen floor.

I went to city & took fish lesson #1. Flora Lawler went with me. Got groceries on way home. Merrill & I went down to Pat & Ruth Eggleston’s in evening.

George Hardy was here about fire insurance. Got ready for Home Bureau tomorrow. Wrote Jim. Wrote about his pictures. Got card from Vern & June from ski lodge.

Had Home Bureau here for first time. 8 members & 2 children. I gave fish lesson #1. Got two letters from Jim. He sent pictures & clipping from paper there about Watertown snow storm. His Sgt, was a paratrooper at Pine Camp at one time.

I have had headache all day. Got letter & clipping of our north snow from Jim. Talked with Mary, Martha, & Esther.

Bill & Vi were here in evening. Beautiful day. Merrill went to milk meeting. Got free cheese. I went to Gouverneur for groceries. Got Jim long underwear at Kaplin’s. Wrote Jim, Vi called. Kenny Rudes wrestled today in tournament for first since he hurt shoulder.

Church has new Wurlitzer organ on trial basis. Merrill & I went out to Mom’s. First time since Christmas. I fell & sprained my ankle when I got home. Washed my hair. Made cookies for Jim. Wrote kids.

I took Home Bureau fish lesson # 2. Flora went with me. I sent Jim long underwear, 2 pair socks, & cookies. Cost $2.48. Jim’s pictures came today. I went to Past Grands at Lula’s.

We got letters from Jim & Mother Tryon. Jim is having trouble with his back. Sent Jim’s picture to Times. Talked with several about pancake dinner at church tomorrow.

I had charge of dining room at church for GLF pancake dinner. Stormy in PM. I didn’t go to lodge. Merrill & I went over to Howard & Evelyn’s in evening. Had pizza.

Still stormy. Wrote Mother Tryon & sent birthday card. Snowed off & on all day. Howard plowed out our driveway. Got Valentine from Vern & June. Pictures from Don’s kids.

Cold, below zero last night. Airplane with 4 people crash landed on Hudson farm. No one hurt. Jim’s picture was in Times. Merrill & I went to city for groceries. Came home by Theresa. Gave Frannie H. Jim’s picture.

Mother Tryon’s 74th birthday. Got letter from Jim. Wrote Jim & sent Jim’s picture to Vern & June. Cleaned & baked. Dick Kenehan died this morning of heart attack.

I had headache in evening. I went to church. The new organ is real nice. Vi, Leah, & I, went to Trudy Delles’ & Walter Van Tassel’s wedding at Philadelphia church.

Maude Drake died of cancer today. Lots warmer today. Thawing. Leah, Vi, Minnie D, Lula, Carrie, & I went to Installation at Antwerp Rebekah’s. Was very nice. Washed clothes.

Got letter from Jim. I started scrap book for him on his Air Force life. Millicent H. & I went up to Philadelphia. We went to call on Mrs. Payne but she wasn’t home. Did ironing.
