Was 24° below zero this morning at 7:15. Cold all day. Wrote Vern’s. Fourth day without water at Theresa. Broken pipe somewhere. Same problem at Lacona and Sandy Creek. Sears didn’t bring my stove. Train wreck near Antwerp. 25 cars off tracks.

Telephone company fixed phone. Hall’s out too. I called Sears. Stove didn’t come in. I made 2 kinds of cookies. Merrill got hair cut. Trains moving again after wreck near Antwerp. Vern and June called in evening. Vern is still having ear and throat trouble.

Church meeting at Mills. Covered dish dinner at 1 PM. Rev H was at church today. We went to church but not to meeting. Drove out to Mom’s in PM. Got scraper toy for Danny’s birthday at drug store. Beautiful day. Garmon R and Randy Moyer 6, hurt.

Edna Hockey called to say Aunt Cora in hospital at Ogdensburg with pneumonia. Called Kessel. He broke leg 3 weeks ago. Debby here in evening.

Porch full of snow. Andy got door open during night. AFS show at IRC School. I didn’t go this year. Called Vern’s. He has tonsil infection and wisdom tooth trouble. Down to zero in evening. Did ironing, made cherry pudding, and muffins.

School out at 3:30 until March 2. Sent Danny card, letter and $1. Merrill and I went up to Philadelphia. He took tractor head to Hills. I Got 2 records, Chet Atkins, and Slim Montano. 5 men beat 3 boys at Lowville School. Mrs. Keichel called in evening to tell me about it. One boy in serious condition.

I got tractor stuff at Snyders on way. I went with Rebekah’s to Hattie Timmerman’s wake. Milk pipeline broke. Evelyn took Merrill to Theresa.

Cleaned house. Called to make appointment with Weldon, but he didn’t call back as his secretary said he would. Vern’s got here about 4:30 PM. He got speeding ticket. Mrs. Donna Payne, 88 died in hospital.

Evelyn collected for flowers for Mrs. Payne. Vern, June and boys left at 2:30 PM. Eleanor, Roberta, Holly, Joey Fraser, and Elaine here for supper. Brought bushel of apples. Toby, Karen and Wade here in evening. Karen is pregnant, Sept. 30. Couldn’t see the eclipse because of clouds.
