Was 24° below zero this morning at 7:15. Cold all day. Wrote Vern’s. Fourth day without water at Theresa. Broken pipe somewhere. Same problem at Lacona and Sandy Creek. Sears didn’t bring my stove. Train wreck near Antwerp. 25 cars off tracks.

Telephone company fixed phone. Hall’s out too. I called Sears. Stove didn’t come in. I made 2 kinds of cookies. Merrill got hair cut. Trains moving again after wreck near Antwerp. Vern and June called in evening. Vern is still having ear and throat trouble.

4-H here. Starting food lesson “Let’s Have a Party”. All here but Robin and Nora. We went to Theresa for groceries. They still haven’t found water trouble break. 6 days. Much warmer.

Mary L was here sewing on her skirt. Warm today 40°. They think they have found water main leak at Theresa near Bickelhaupt Garage. First day of fishing derby at Sackets.

Church meeting at Mills. Covered dish dinner at 1 PM. Rev H was at church today. We went to church but not to meeting. Drove out to Mom’s in PM. Got scraper toy for Danny’s birthday at drug store. Beautiful day. Garmon R and Randy Moyer 6, hurt.

Called Dr. Scanlon for eye appointment., April 13. Guild meeting. Viet Nam exchange student program. I didn’t go. Raining in evening. Jim, Pat and Vicky here for supper. Ken’s were at Jim’s yesterday. Cleaned house. Eleanor took Juanita and David to Syracuse for Dave’s check up.

WSCS at Carrie Thompson’s. I didn’t go. Stormy night and I have headache. I took Rev H for check up. Took him eight places in all. Mrs. H. has bursitis in her shoulder so she couldn’t go with us. Marion Schell stopped in with Jamie’s apron.

Uncle Ray has been gone one year today. Rebekah’s. Vi, Lois H and I on committee. It was so stormy and slippery, Mary and I didn’t go to Lodge. Called Aunt Maude.

Wrote Dot. Sent Dan and Steve Valentines. Sent Newsweek subscription. Did income taxes and Farm Survey. I went after Robin’s and Mary’s 4-H garments. Debby brought hers over in evening.

Friday the 13th. Took garments to city. Aunt Maude went with me. She got truck license in her name. Income tax and Merrill’s SS will be $237.90. Sent Farm Survey. Edna Hockey called to say Aunt Cora in hospital at Ogdensburg with pneumonia. Called Kessel. He broke leg 3 weeks ago. Debby here in evening.

Sent income tax. Debby was over to work on her black blouse. All done but hem and buttons. Sent Mother T. birthday card and note. Washed clothes. Washed my hair. Howard H. had accident with truck at city.

Lois and Carroll Ward’s 25th anniversary. Open house at Lodge rooms. We went. Very nice. We went to church. Went to diner for dinner. Terrible snowy and roads slippery. Debby over in evening. I put button holes in her blouse.

Mother T’s 81st birthday. PNG’s at Carrie’s. Jim and Patty here for supper. Nice day. Howard plowed our driveway. I went to Past Grands. 19 out to it.

Wrote Vern’s. Sent cards to Aunt Cora, Martha Brown and Virginia New. We went to city. Got 4-H clothes. Sharon, Lorraine, Marie, and Nora: Ex. 2 Debby’s, Jamie, Linda, Mary: Good. Robin: Worthy. Got threshold for Aunt Maude’s door. John Wheeler called about my Feb. Good Housekeeping magazine.

Mr. and Mrs. Gary Pastor’s second wedding anniversary. Real warm, 45°. Merrill worked on taking small tractor apart. Finally got Feb. Good Housekeeping Magazine. Gerry called from 4-H office about Horse contest.

Porch full of snow. Andy got door open during night. AFS show at IRC School. I didn’t go this year. Called Vern’s. He has tonsil infection and wisdom tooth trouble. Down to zero in evening. Did ironing, made cherry pudding, and muffins.

School out at 3:30 until March 2. Sent Danny card, letter and $1. Merrill and I went up to Philadelphia. He took tractor head to Hills. I Got 2 records, Chet Atkins, and Slim Montano. 5 men beat 3 boys at Lowville School. Mrs. Keichel called in evening to tell me about it. One boy in serious condition.

Beautiful day. Warmer. Cleaned and baked cakes and pie crusts. Washed and rinsed my hair.

I was in bed all day with terrible headache. Beautiful day, warm.

Danny’s 3rd birthday. No mail. We went to city to get Karen, Cindy, and Debby. Juanita came too. Got Danny’s birthday gift, tractor with scraper and road scraper. Got girls a doll. Jim and Gary here for speakers. Patty sick. Saw first crow in city.

We gave girls their “Baby Margie” doll. They sure love her. I made her some clothes. Merrill went to Philadelphia for light switch for small bathroom. Sent for World Day of Prayer stuff for second time. Cloudy day. Got card from Dot M. She’s not too good.

Rebekah’s. 19 out. Vi and Lois H absent. Girls stayed with Merrill in evening. Sears delivered my new kitchen range. Works swell. $316.94. Cooked supper on it. Marguerite called. Bill here with fuel oil. Merrill went up to bank.

-22 below at 8 AM. Beautiful but cold. Patty called. She has pneumonia. Jim sick in bed also. They are at home. Dr. Ronson wanted Pat to go to hospital. I went up to bank and for groceries. Washed girls hair. They took baths. Mia Farrow had twin boys with Andre Previn. They aren’t married.

4-H Demonstration Day at Lafargeville School 9:30 AM. None of our club took part this year. I don’t feel too peppy yet. We went after groceries in PM. Tired when I got home. Debby over awhile. Saw first crow in door yard.

Warmer today. We took girls home. Stopped at Jim and Pat’s. Took them soup. They are feeling better. Pat still quite sick. Don was having lawyer stop by but he didn’t come while we were there. Church women brought Juanita and Don crib full of baby gifts.

4-H here, 1 PM. Kids made slapsticks projects. Only 4 here. Nice day. Wrote Dot Medina.

Fran’s 45th birthday. Spring like day. Howard plowed our driveway. Sent cow to sale, Old Slow Poke. Washed clothes, made cookies, and washed and cut my hair. Put old stove out on porch.

Wrote Good Housekeeping Magazine about late magazine. I have headache. Couldn’t help paint at church. WSCS at Edith Seeley’s. I went. Eleanor called Merrill in evening. Holly cut his head sliding. She was at hospital with him. Mom has to go see lawyer.

Andy has sore tail. Got letter from Juanita. Raining in evening. Carl and Evelyn Scee here in evening until 1:30 AM. They have new station wagon. Jim went back to work tonight.

Vern called. Are coming tomorrow. Welser barn at Mills burned, 65 young stock lost. I went to Mom’s. Finally got her to say she’s see Mr. Weldon. Uncle Lloyd there also. I got tractor stuff at Snyders on way. I went with Rebekah’s to Hattie Timmerman’s wake. Milk pipeline broke. Evelyn took Merrill to Theresa.

Cleaned house. Called to make appointment with Weldon, but he didn’t call back as his secretary said he would. Vern’s got here about 4:30 PM. He got speeding ticket. Mrs. Donna Payne, 88 died in hospital.

Evelyn collected for flowers for Mrs. Payne. Vern, June and boys left at 2:30 PM. Eleanor, Roberta, Holly, Joey Fraser, and Elaine here for supper. Brought bushel of apples. Toby, Karen and Wade here in evening. Karen is pregnant, Sept. 30. Couldn’t see the eclipse because of clouds.

Colder and windy. We went to church. Aunt Maude called in evening. Her sister Carrie’s husband Ed is dead at Syracuse.

Mom called in AM. She isn’t going to the Lawyers. Washed and baked. Called 4-H kids about seeds. Send Fire Insurance, $301.35. They are painting inside of church, also basement floor. IOOF Installation. Merrill installed as Chaplain.

Uncle Berl’s birthday. Cold wind today. Sent for 4-H flower seeds. Jim and Pat here for PM and supper. Gary, JoAnne and Laurie here awhile. Boys are going to take State Police Tests April 18. Called Eleanor but she was at barn.

Rebekah’s. I went with Mary. Very cold wind but nice day. Aunt Maude called about selling machinery. Got phone bill with new rates.

Beautiful day. warmer. We went to city. Merrill got rest of parts for small tractor. I sent letter to Census Bureau about being a Census enumerator. Wrote WNCQ-FM about C and W show. Went to bank.

4-H here with Buffet supper. Jamie and Robin not here. Had a nice candlelight luncheon. Rice and cheese casserole, muffins, coffee cake, cookies, Jell-O. Merrill went up to Aunt Maude’s to see about machinery for sale. I got jury notice for March 30th.

Wade Morrow’s 1st birthday. Nice day but snowing in evening. We went out to Mom’s. She has flu. Also Don’s kids except for David and Brenda. Took Mom curtains for cupboard, dark tan.

Beautiful spring like day. We went to church. Baptism, Crosses. Lots out to church, about 90. Furnace in dining room not working right. Merrill called Lee Hall about it. Ivan Hale bought 4 milk cans from Merrill. $10.

PNG’s at Diane’s. I went. 15 out. Sent Roberta card and letter. Sent card to Secret Pal. Washed clothes. Merrill and Lynn went to Webb’s for part of straw @.30. Washed my hair. Washed kitchen curtains. Attorney Weldon called in evening. I called Ken’s at 11:15.

Jeffrey Rudes 3rd birthday. Roberta’s 18th. Wrote Vern’s. Called Weldon. Got appointment for 4 PM tomorrow. Called Eleanor. Jim and Pat here for supper. Jim made out police report for State Trooper. Merrill got hair cut. He got new boots at Pearls. Birthday present.

Appointment with Attorney Weldon at 4 PM. Ken, Don and I. got home at 7. Was 5:30 before weldon saw us. Beautiful day. Merrill worked at little tractor. Drove it. FFA Banquet meeting at Martha B to plan it. Joyce, Lois H, Dawn, Vi, Esther, and myself. Mildred Tousley 71, died at 3 AM at Bay Hospital.

I called Mom. Beautiful day. Merrill washed car. Called several about Mildred’s wake. Joyce G got meat for @.88 at Westons. Beef for FFA banquet. Merrill got birthday card from Vern’s and Jim’s. Sent check for kitchen stove.

Rebekah’s go for service for Mildred Tousley at 7:30. About 17. Mary went with me. Girls got red carnations to use. Large crowd there. Raining in PM. Mail strike spreading. Cleaned house. Joyce G called to say she got beef at .88 and ham at .87 at Westons. Need 150 lb each. Ruth Eg called.

Mildred Tousley’s funeral at church. Snowy. Telephone out. Got it fixed at 5 PM. Was the upstairs phone. Debby over in PM. Brought over flower money. Merrill got birthday card from Don’s.

Merrill’s birthday. 61 years. Gave him rubber boots. We went to church. Was full. Lots baptized and some joined the church. We drove up to Uncle Len’s in PM. They are good. Snowing in evening.

Mail strike looks bad. Sent Easter cards to boys and Secret Pal. Birthday card to Juanita and Eleanor. Started cleaning bedrooms upstairs. Washed clothes. Jim and Pat here for supper. They brought Merrill nice blue jacket for his birthday. Merrill got card and letter from Uncle Berl.

Snowed some during night. Finished cleaning bedrooms. Washed dining room curtains and windows. Merrill got birthday card from Mother Tryon. Andy has sore foot. Debby and Jamie called in evening.

Eleanor’s 42nd birthday. I have headache but kept going. Mopped and waxed rest of upstairs floors. Dyed bedroom rug and two spreads. Merrill went to Philadelphia. Beautiful during day. I went to Rebekah’s with Mary but felt horrid.
