Called Mom. Eleanor’s mother died of heart attack last Monday on Dec 8th. Found her on the floor. Made Christmas cookies and dipped chocolates. Merrill has headache. Got letter from Uncle Berl. He got our package. Rev. H entered hospital for piles.

Wrote Eleanor. Called Aunt Maude. Washed Merrill’s clothes. We went Christmas shopping. Saw Jim and Pat at Fays. Jim has a cold. Saw Fanny Reeder in Grants. Got two rug runners for porch $3.33. Got letters from June and Marg. Tiny Tim and Miss Vicky married on TV Tonight Show.

PNG’s at Leah’s. 6:30 dinner. 18 present. Carrie F had my name. My new S Pal is Elsie Bacon. Myrtle Duff and Addie Klock both gone this year. Wrote Vern’s. Hall’s came home with snowmobile, yellow. Snowing terrible way home.

4-H party at Debby Halls 7:30. 39 there. Nice time. All girls there but Mary Landon. Sharon Hall’s 16th birthday. Had birthday cake at party. Mary made it. I finished wrapping gifts. Merrill got hair cut. 4-H kids gave me 4-H earrings and pad.

Church Christmas tree in evening. We went. Stopped at Vi and Bill’s to see Martha’s baby. Packed shut-in baskets in PM. I didn’t help. Packed 33 baskets. Charlie Hayes died of heart attack. Pat called. She has cold. Made salad.

Christmas with Vern’s and Jim’s. We had dinner at 12:30. All got nice gifts. I got perma press table cloth and SS Magazine. Dad got shirt, peanuts and National Geographic. Jim and Pat matching PJ’s. Jim’s left a about 6 PM. Patty made dessert. Danny has cold. Sent Donna card. Got letter from Dot M.

Donna’s 26th birthday. Vern’s left about 10 AM. 10° below last night. Merrill put wire back on oven on stove. Hasn’t been working right. Merrill put doors on porch. Got 5 pounds of cheese from Queens. Also letter opener from Bob M.

Church candlelight service, 9 PM. Jim, Pat, Merrill and I went to it. Very nice. Jim and Pat here for supper and tree. All got nice gifts. I got watch. Gave Jim watch, Pat clothes. Merrill watch and jig saw. 9 below zero at 7:30. Merrill went to Philadelphia for groceries. Rev. H not too good. He is having muscle spasms.

12 °below zero. Milk house froze up. Took laundry room heater down to thaw it. We went to Mom’s. Stopped at Jim and Pat’s on way and rode out with Jim’s. They were at her mother’s for tree in AM. Ken’s didn’t get up to Mom’s. Roberta and Ken sick. Very nice day.

Couldn’t go to church as Merrill couldn’t get driveways plowed in time. Tractor wouldn’t start. Jeff and Merrill finally got driveways open at 12 PM. Nice day. 23°. Toby, Karen, and Wade here in evening.

-2° in morning. Renewed Good Housekeeping magazine for two years. I shortened my black and white coat. Merrill went to Theresa, Mills and Watertown. He got new electric 3 heat heater for back room at Century, $23. Got hose for bathtub. Hall’s got snow mobile going again.

No special celebration this year. Iwent around neighborhood collecting for flowers for Justine Sinclair Smith who died Sunday 28th in Florida. Merrill helped Howard on garage. Ordered flowers $10.60. Took down tree.

Took down decorations. 12° below at 7:30 AM. Merrill took off head of tractor. I took it to Fred Hills to have valve ground. I stopped at Ken and Brenda’s to leave kids gift. Vi and I went to city. We shopped at Seaway. Stopped at Jim’s. We went to hospital to get Mrs. Hutchinson. Rev. H not good yet.

Wrote Vern’s. Merrill went to Fry’s for tractor parts. Mrs. Hutchinson rode to hospital with him. Debbie G. here to sew in AM. Betty stopped in awhile. Nora L here to sew in PM. Howard cleaned our barn. Ran out of gas. Uncle Sam Taff died today, 86 years old.

Uncle Sam Taff funeral at Adams. We went. Only us as relatives there. Rev M Hutchinson preached. Nice flowers. Several friends there. WSCS at Vi Mowers. Only 11 out. Jim and Pat here for supper. She got supper. Got letter from Uncle Berl and Lettie. Ken’s 50th birthday.

Everything at a standstill in city because of snow storm. No schools open. Some roads are closed. Merrill plowed out driveways. He went to Theresa in PM to bank and for groceries. I washed. Made cookies and donuts.

I have horrid headache. Couldn’t go to Guild at Marguerites. John Keichel to show slides on Laos. Andy our black cat is missing. Merrill went to Philadelphia to bank. Donna called today. Mary has pneumonia. Sent Merrill’s accident insurance, $19.

I feel much better today. Merrill went to Mills. Jim and Pat here for supper. Howard and Evelyn brought Andy home. Been gone since Sunday night. Ronnie and Sharon Sinclair had baby boy this morning. 4 1/2 lb. Called Halls.

Rebekah’s. Several out despite 12° below. Mary sick with pneumonia. Wrote Uncle Berl. Sent money in full for Sabre Saw. Called Ruth. Ronnie’s baby is named Shannon Drew, 4 1/2 lb. Is in an incubator.

28° below zero during night. I took Mrs. Hutchinson to hospital in morning. Got groceries at P & C. Saw Dorothy Hogaboom. Called Mom. I got my hair cut, washed, and set at Patty Thornton’s $4.75. Merrill started working on income tax. Paula Hutton 15, had twin girls.

4-H here at 7:30. 7 girls here sewing. Much warmer 36° in evening. Was below zero this morning. Merrill shoveled walk. Haven’t used it in weeks, T he snow was so deep. Wrote Mother Tryon. Merrill worked on income tax.

10° below at 7 AM. Mrs. Hutchinson and I went out after Rev. Hutchinson at hospital at 9:30 AM. He has been in there 5 weeks and 1 day. Sure glad to be home again. Cold wind. Below zero all day. Merrill has rash on hands. First Atlantic Crossing of Boeing 747 passenger flight.

Jim’s 2nd anniversary as policeman. 25° below zero during night. We have had below zero weather for 18 days this month so far. Below zero all day. Paula’s shower. I didn’t go. Karen called. Her Stanley Party changed to Monday evening.

Sent land taxes, $154.72. Sent WSCS evaluation reports. Jim and Pat here in PM and for supper. She did most of her washing. Jim is coaching kids at Sacred Heart Church in basketball. Audrey Puffer, Mary Landon, and Edna Cross birthdays.

Rebekah’s. I didn’t go. Very windy and stormy in evening. Agway dinner at noon at church. Only 14 there. Had that many workers. Merrill and I went to Sears in PM. Bought new cook range on inventory sale. $316.94. A woman was murdered at W. Carthage.

A lot less snow this morning. Rainy and windy during night. Temperature 40°. Thawing all day. Snow very dirty. Merrill broke road back in pasture. Got letter from Juanita. Don wants us to come out Sunday, Also Ken’s.

We went out to Mom’s for dinner. Ken’s there also. Warm and thawing. Don asked about buying farm and getting Mom’s affairs settled. Not much luck talking to her. We were late getting home. Didn’t go to church.
