Labor Day. Merrill cut wood. Beautiful day. Washed Merrill’s work clothes. Washed mirrors and windows. Watch telethon most all day. Over 42 million collected. Over $531,000 locally.

Administrative Council. We went. Made more plans for 150th anniversary celebration. Sent letter to lawyer Stuart Jackson canceling farm investigation.

School starts. 2nd bus late to elementary schools. Wrote Vern’s and Leslie. We went for groceries in PM. Mary K here. Merrill cut wood. Very hot. We froze 5 packages of corn.

UMW here, 14 present. Nice meeting. Leah on refreshments with me. Fruit salad, crackers., monkey bread, and cookies. Very hot. In the 80’s. Merrill scraped door at Mary K. Chris Lynch got hurt at football.

Merrill took pump to parsonage. He got his hair cut. He cut wood. Very humid and cloudy. Store keeper on square found murdered this morning.

A very hot and humid hazy day. I made apple pie and roasted a turkey from freezer. Washed clothes.

Church back to 11:15. now. We went to Sunday School 44, and church. Still hot and muggy. Jim, Joel, and Scott Pastor 15 (Gary and Joanne’s youngest son) here for PM and supper. Rain shower in evening.

A little cooler and cloudy. Merrill cut wood. He went over town for milk. Got checks from bank, $8.50.

Merrill took his saw to Sixberry’s. It won’t start. I canned 7 quarts of tomatoes from garden. washed work clothes. Merrill painted Mary K garage door. Vivian here for leukemia drive, $3.00.

Rebekah’s. Evans Mills ladies joined, 16 there. Froze last of corn. Rained some in evening. Merrill painted Mary’s garage door again. Paid him $15.00.

PPR meeting Philadelphia, 7:30. 8 there. Voted on support package, $24,200. We went for groceries in AM. Raining in evening.

Cooked 10 pounds of potatoes and made fruit cocktail cake for anniversary Sunday. Washed clothes.

Debbie’s (Beulah’s grand daughter) wedding. We helped at church some in AM. We prepared food at Legion. Cold and raining.

150th anniversary of Philadelphia United Methodist Church. A great day. We went to Sunday School and church. Over a hundred attended. Had chicken Bar-B-Q. Vern and June, and Bea came to it. Merrill and I received awards. Also Marge and Joyce. Rev. Collin Kerr-Carpenter did a great job.

Tired today. A nice day. Warm in PM. Berl Scee stabbed over weekend in fight. In Mercy Hospital. Basel Beckstead’s son and daughter-in-law arrested in drug charges.

Amway peas, $26.00. Merrill went to Mills twice for them. Only 11 packages in first box. Got new plugs and tune up, $50.85 at George’s. Chain saw not ready yet. Washed dresses. Merrill cut corn in garden.

Vern’s 53rd birthday. Nice day. Merrill mowed lawns. Huge hurricane doing lots of damage. Very strong. Number 4 on a 5 scale.

Hugo” hit eastern coast about midnight. Terrible damage at Charleston South Carolina. We went for groceries in morning. Windy and hot.

Hugo passed over here about 1 PM. Bad winds and rain. Not too bad here. Washed clothes. Dried them inside. Power off 1 1/2 hours in PM. Kathy and Rae here. Ordered 2 things from Rae. Baked cake and cupcakes.

Joyce preaching today. Collin and Kathy in Texas to study. We went to Sunday School 46, and church 40. Jim, Joel, and Walt here in PM and for supper. Girls at band practice. Men cut wood. Down to 40° overnight.

First people moved into Carpenter Meadows. We went out to Don’s. There most of the day. Don not feeling good at all. Debby and Mary had bad accident. Debbie’s car totaled. Sent taxes and AARP insurance and card to Leah. I called Roberta from Don’s.

Washed clothes. Merrill put more wood down cellar. He washed the car. A great day, 70’s. I called Elmer and Melba. Leslie finished radiation treatments this week. He’s doing okay.
