Diary Entry for 4/10/1977

Easter Sunday. A beautiful day. I didn’t go to church. Spent day at hospital with Merrill, 11 AM to 4 PM. We talked with Gladys and Lamon. Watched “The Ten Commandments” on TV in evening, 4 1/2 hours long.

Mom’s appointment with Dr. Myerdericks. Eleanor called. She has another abscess. Jim’s here for supper. They did chores. I got B-12 shot at Marilyn’s. Merrill rode up to Philadelphia. 73° again today.

Beautiful day. I cleaned on lawns. Merrill burned old hay. Pat Brancatella had his barn painted. First time ever. Jim and Kenny Rudes here for lunch. They gave lesson on child abuse at IRC at Philadelphia.

New York State 200 years old today. I finished cleaning lawns. Merrill helped a little this PM on them. Merrill went to Gouverneur with Lynn to get brushes on tractor generator, $12.50. Cloudy.

Lula’s 87th birthday. IOOF had meeting with John Goslin and DDP at city. He came for charter but didn’t get it. I baked cake and cookies. Merrill cleaned floors. Got letter from Lettie Wood.

Lynn got hay. Merrill put in dump station for Halls. We all went for groceries in morning. Jolie and I went over to Lorraine B. Only she, Tony and Angie there. Rest in New Jersey. Got letter from Uncle Berl and Beulah Hall.

We went to Sunday School and church. Jolie enjoyed it. She wore long dress Aunt June got for her. Called Mom. Jim’s came after Jolie. Here for supper. Beautiful day. We went to evening service. Rev. Johnson in charge, about 30 out.

Cleaned at CEC all day. Marilyn, Margaret, Noreen, Sina and Vi also. Raining in morning. Margaret said Jane Keichel Mowott and Bob have a baby boy, Justin Robert about 7 pounds born April 21. Marilyn gave me B-12 shot.

A nice day but cool wind. Washed clothes and bedding. Cleaned our bedroom upstairs. Pauline Roggie called. She took Mom to Dr. Thompson at Adams Center. Uncle Lloyd not too good. He’s bleeding.

Aunt Maude’s doctor appointment. Uncle Lloyd goes to doctor Plumpton. Mom called in evening. We went to Philadelphia for groceries. Called Aunt Maude. She goes to hospital next Tuesday, 10th.

Merrill’s appointment with Dr. Gardner, 2:30. All OK. Not to lift real heavy things for 10 days yet. My appointment with Dr. Scanlon, 2:15. $17. I don’t have to go back for 6 months. Called Marion. Mother and Daughter Banquet. Ellen Johnson speaker. Merrill helped in kitchen. Big crowd 125.

4-H here. Made cream puffs. 8 here, plus Patsy. Judy Payne here. Mowed lawns for first this year. Got several Mother’s Day cards from kids. Wrote Uncle Berl. Merrill and Lynn built fence.

30° this morning. Mother’s Day. We went to church, 93 out. Mrs. Cameron gave me afghan she made for Mom to take to her. Patty called in morning. They came for dinner. Brought me petunia plant.

Jim and Pat’s 8th anniversary. We went out to Mom’s. I took her to Dr. Thompson at Adams Center. Her 2nd visit to him. Merrill put on barn roof for one of Don’s barns, $30. Aunt Maude went to hospital. Room 231. Betty Haggerty had operation.

UMW District Meeting at Black River. Only Esther and Marilyn went. Vicki Haggerty and Michael Walrath wedding at Philadelphia Catholic Church. Reception at home. We went to both.

Betty Haggerty went home from hospital. Brown’s farm auction. Large. Church sold refreshments. I fried all the hamburgers,160. Merrill helped all day. Margaret K, Marilyn, Lois, Esther, Janet also. Howard paid for rest of dump station, $200 and $100 toward pasture. I went to baby shower for Tina Nickter at Judy P.

Patty’s 30th birthday. We went to Sunday School and church. We went to Jim’s in PM. Took Patty birthday cake. We stopped at church for evening service on way home. All very nice. Patty flour sifter and lace table doily.

We went out to Mom’s. Merrill put on house roof at Dons. Worked 5 1/2 hours. Stopped at Sears and Fays. Got paint for porch. Merrill got electric drill at Fays, $12. on sale. Ordered jack at Sears.

Merrill worked at Horton’s for 4 hours. Vern’s called in morning. Gehm’s are here. Washed and cut my hair. Merrill mowed lawns. Terry mowed center lawn. We planted dahlias and flowers. Hot. In 80’s. Howard turned his cows into night pasture.

Jim goes to Police Convention at Monticello. Rev. Cameron and Don Gehm birthday. We went to Sunday School and church. We all sang happy birthday to Rev. Cameron. We drove out to Mom’s in PM. Went to Sunday evening church. Stopped at Beulah’s.

PNG’s at Aunt Maude’s. Administrative Board meeting, I went. IOOF meeting. Merrill went. Lynn went to hospital. Merrill worked at Horton’s, 8 hours. I washed porch windows. Settled porch. Varnished rocker and stands. Washed clothes.

Mom’s appointment with Dr. Myerdericks, 2:40. He wants her to go to hospital Thursday. Merrill worked at Don’s roof, 4 hours. I took Juanita to Lorraine Church. Stopped at Marg’s. We varnished furniture second coat in evening.

Another beautiful day. Cooler in evening. Merrill took car to Gouverneur for front brake lining, $38.58. He worked at Horton’s, 5 hours. Patty and kids here. Patty and I planted garden.

Merrill finished job at Horton’s, 1 1/2 hours. We went to hospital in PM. Mom had x-rays and bone scan. Hurt so she wouldn’t let them finish. Wrote Vern’s. Merrill got hydraulic jack from Sears, $28.88. Phoned Payne’s

Betty Haggerty, 73rd birthday. Sent letter to Insurance company to cancel our Life Insurance, Farm Family. We went to hospital to see Mom. She’s feeling better. Is getting chemotherapy. Marg and Roy there. Rained in evening.
