Diary Entry for 10/29/1974

4-H Leader’s Banquet, NI Leagues [?]. Turkey dinner. Very nice. I got 10 year gold pin. Lynn, Mary, Lorraine, and Marie went. Jamie, Judy and Nora went with Merrill and I. I went to Bible Study. A beautiful day. Merrill washed car. Mohammed Ali knocked out Forman in 8th round.

Dr. Roberts, 3:00. Report OK but could be a little better. He gave me prescriptions for B-12 shots. Brenda and Bill have baby boy born this PM, 8 lb, 4 oz. Named Bill Wayne. Bill called. Michael Payne has brain tumor. Can’t be operated on.

Election Day. We voted in AM. Mildred Beardsley’s birthday. Took Merrill to Bill’s. Brought Mark home with me. Jim, Pat and Jolie here for supper. Jim went to Bill’s after Merrill. Got dish washer powder, $5. Mark and I stopped at Aunt Maude’s. Took her [crocheted] swan to wash.

I took Mark home in morning. Merrill went over to help at Bill’s. He brought our tractor home in PM. Vi and I set tables at CEC. I got groceries. Covered dish supper at CEC. Marva showed Holy Land slides. Very good. 35 to supper, 50 for slides. Roy, Marg, Juanita, and Wayne at Brenda’s.

I went to full Gospel with Bob Osterhant’s mother. Bob gave himself to the Lord today at meeting. Merrill worked at Aunt Maude’s blower. I baked pies and made cookies. Martha Meeks moved to Watertown today. Mundy Street. Worked at 4-H stuff in evening to send to 4-H office Monday.

Agway Supper, 503 paid $4.50. I went up at 2:30. Got home at 11 PM. Merrill went to supper. I went to Bible Study. Rainy. Merrill got chair saw at Sixbury’s, $167.10. Merrill went to Lafargeville for 50 pounds of cottage cheese.

Still tired today. My burn on foot much better. Merrill worked at Aunt Maude’s. Got letter from June. Her Dad is sick with sugar upset. Taylor’s here in evening. Raining in evening. Asked Marva and girls to come for Thanksgiving.

Wrote Ken’s. Sent anniversary card. A little snow on ground this morning. 11 inches in Buffalo. Merrill got Aunt Maude’s blower going. I took him up and went after him. Aunt Maude washed my swan for me. Looks so new. I went to Ruth Eg to UMW, Theresa, 12 out. Buffalo has 24 inches of snow this evening.

Ken and Eleanor’s 28th anniversary. First snowmobile by last night. Philadelphia plow over for first. Not that much snow, about 2 inches in morning. Wrote Vern’s. Cleaned house. Washed rugs. Waxed kitchen floor in evening. Jim, Pat, and Jolie here for supper. Brought me candy, writing paper.

I started taking Church bulletin notices. We went to church. Dr. Jones will only be with us next Sunday. They are going to Florida. We went out to Mom’s after church. Juanita was at her mother’s. We went to church in evening. Ruth and Carol went with us.

Dr. Scanlon, 2 PM. Everything Ok. Had dark room exam, $15. Got first Hypo needles and B-12 serum. $2.95. I went to Bible Study with Pearl,Vi, and Margaret. Merrill went to city with us. Got letter and card from Uncle Berl. Called Delores S. from city about bulletins.

Raining all day. I called Delores Sch. Merrill fixed lamps and cord. I washed kitchen curtains. I’m tired today Got letter and card from Marg and Vern’s. Beulah B. and husband are parting. We went up to Philadelphia in evening to get bulletin stuff from Delores. Got turkey at Big M, 19 pounds at 57 cents.

My 57th birthday. Got gift apron and hot mat from Secret Pal. Mom called in evening. Very stormy all day. Snowy and windy. Washed my hair. Wrote Debby. Left bulletin stuff at Rosies. Mom called in evening. Got groceries.

Debby’s 15th birthday Nice day but cold. Roads slippery. Plow over for first but no snow in road. Washed chairs and couch covers. Aunt Maude called. She has Vern and June’s pillow top finished. My 4-H girls had a surprise party for me. They came with food, decorated cake, and gifts. Club gave me ring.

Pastor-Parish meting. Rev Wood introduced Rev. and Mrs. Albert Cameron, Muriel, from Huveleton [?] to us. They will come January 15th. Merrill got hair cut. He went to Sears for Christmas order. I went to Bible Study. Put in 11 gal @.375.

Terry’s 20th birthday. Rev. Allison Wood preaches. We went to church. Rev. Wood announced that Rev. Albert Cameron would be coming to Philadelphia the middle of January. We didn’t’ go to evening service. Too tired for some reason.

Sleeting most of day. Several schools closed South of us. There is a back draft in stove so it smokes. Jim, Pat and Jolie here for supper. Jim brought out trophy he won for placing first on firing range.

Bible study canceled, Marg G. ill. Merrill went to Theresa. UMW covered dish supper, 6:30. Election of officers. Only 8 out but a nice time. Nominating committee not present so election in January. Furnace off at CEC.

I went to Philadelphia for groceries. Marie came home with me to sew. She finished machine sewing her dress. They took Dawn McEtherin to Upstate Medical. Got first Christmas card from Mrs. Beardsley.

Raining all day. We went to church. Donald Neuroth and Diane N had service, 54 there. We went out to Big M store afterwards. We went to church in evening. Ruth went with us. Got $44 in collection for McEtherin. Have about $200 for them.

Jolie here to stay while Jim and Pat went to Boy Scout Camp with Kenny and Brenda. Came after her in evening. We went to Mills and Brenda’s. She was at doctor’s. Billy is so cute. Sent Roy card and letter. Snowing some.

Dawn McEtherin died today. Rebekah and PNG’s Christmas Party at Lodge, 6:30, covered dish supper. I just went to meeting. Diane had my name. I’ve had headache all day. Washed clothes. Got package ready to send. Got $10 from Dot. Minnie P. my Secret Pal.

Friday the 13th. Sent first Christmas cards to Beulah H. and Aunt K. in Washington. Foggy all day. I took notes to Rose and stopped at Judy Paynes for coffee. We went to Mom’s in PM. Stopped at Jim and Carol McEtherin. Dawn looked so sweet. Benefit dance for Mike P.

Wrote Lamons and Petrie’s in Christmas Cards. Merrill cut wood,. I washed clothes. Got living room ready for tree. I wrapped all the presents in evening except 4-H ones. They made over $1100 for Mike Payne. Washed my hair.

Vi’s birthday. Ray Bellinger, Lay speaker preached. 91 out to church. We got tree at Davis gas station, $2.. Set it up in PM. We went to church in evening with Ruth. Jim and Carol McEtherin there. It was a beautiful experience. What grand people.

Jim, Patty, and Jolie and Daisy here in PM and for supper. Brought up lovely silver tray and server for our anniversary. Jim typed finance report for me. They decorated tree with help of 2 dogs & one cat. More fun. Jim brought me his typewriter. Vern’s called. He gets his job for 3 more years. Mrs. Cameron called.
