We took out tree. Took down all decorations. Merrill went to Mills and helped Matt in PM and evening. UMW at Vi’s. I started Study on India. Got tax notice, $268.01, up $58. Beautiful day.

Boots tore upstairs couch to pieces. I worked on UMW minutes and reports. Merrill helped hang door at CEC. I went to Bible Study at Parsonage with Ruth in evening. We went over to see Sunday School house.

Windy and rainy. My parakeet, “Chipper” died today. Men not working on house today. Sent Merrill’s accident insurance, $19.

Snowing some and windy. Boots and I went to Philadelphia for groceries. Washed clothing in evening. Cleaned oven. Sent Ken card and letter.

Ken’s 53rd birthday. Sent WSCS reports. Sent money to Readers Digest and Newsweek for 50 weeks for $7. Marie here to cut out 4-H outfit. Cold all day, -10° in morning.

Dawn Taryn Hall’s 7th birthday. I went to Bible Study in AM. Worked at CEC awhile afterwards. Kitchen drain froze outdoors. Jim, Pat and Jolie here for supper,. Jolie is growing so fast. Warmer today. Got letter from June.

Very stormy in AM. Merrill took me to the CEC. Joyce and I papered ceilings. They ordered wall to wall carpets, $1500 from Haymonds [in] Antwerp. Merrill plowed driveways, ours, Hales and Halls.

I worked at CEC all day. Robert McNavin demonstrated cleaner. Bought Commercial cleaner for $214.95. WSCS. Very nice. Merrill went to Mills. Got groceries. Washed my hair.

Worked at CEC. Papered just about all of front room. Joanne Preston, 32, took her life in garage. Her daughter found her at 1 AM. We went to Charge Meeting at church in evening. 15 there. Marian called for flowers for Joanne. Got letter from Dot.

Got letter from June. Went to Bible Study. Worked at CEC rest of day. Tired today. Got fire insurance down this year, $238.73. Due February 11th.

Doreen’s 16th birthday. Worked at CEC. Joyce and I finished back kitchen. Looks so nice. Raining. Merrill went up in PM to see Jim Hardy. CEC is about finished. Start carpets Monday. Bought refrigerator for CEC, $35 from C. House.

Jim’s 5th anniversary as policeman. Windy, rainy day. Nice in evening. I went to PNG’s at Diane’s. Ex President Lyndon Johnson, 64 died of heart attack.

Cloudy day. Windy. President Nixon announced tonight that Peace Treaty with Viet Nam will be signed Saturday. January 27th at 7 PM. I went to Bible study with Ruth.

We went to Philadelphia for groceries. Nice day. Sold calf and cow to Trumble, $135. Mary Charles Hall gets out of Rome Hospital today.

Merrill went to Antwerp to pay taxes, $268.01. Got Boots first dog license, $2.35. Got letter from Uncle Berl. They move Saturday, 27th, 1233 Madison, Apartment B. On Lettie’s birthday.

Went to CEC in AM to help clean kitchen floors. Waxed them. It all looks so great. Lorraine, Vicky, and Jane here to sew in PM. Vern called. They are coming tomorrow. Washed my hair. Merrill went to Philadelphia for groceries.

Snowing some. Vern’s got here in time for Church Consecration Service in new building. June brought meat loaf and salad. Jim’s came for Open House in PM. Also all here for supper. A great day. Steve and Dan brought us firewood.

Some better but rested most of day. Week of Prayer and Self Denial program at CEC but I didn’t go. Only 6 there. Got note from Beulah Hall. Sent check for church. Terrible snowy in south, even parts of Florida. Vernon Campbell died, 76.

Vicky and Jane here to sew. Washed clothes. Bob Griffin called to say Vernon Campbell died yesterday. Trustees to each give $2 toward guest book. Got letter from Uncle Berl. His new address is 1233 East Madison, Apartment B.

Got this diary at Woolworth’s, $1.99. Got toys for Boots. We went to church. Jim McEtherin guest speaker. Blankenships called Flaherty’s. They are in snow storm in Georgia. We went to Jim’s for dinner. They have done so much on their house. Mom called in evening,. First War Prisoner released today.

-12° in morning. Wrote Uncle Berl. Sent Valentines. Watched returning 142 POW’s on TV. They look good. Only 3 stretcher cases. Guild had exchange student at CEC, but I didn’t go. Very cold in evening. Got Valentines from Dan and Steve and Secret Pal.

Got check, disaster load, $4500. Warmer. Sent Mother T card and letter. Boots and I went to Philadelphia to bank and grocery store. Saw Helen and Carl in store. She said Mrs. Hagan, 89, died this morning at Mercy Hospital. Helen was out there. POW’s back on US soil. Merrill and I went to Lodge. Snowed a lot.

Payne’s got home from Florida. Mother Tryon’s 84th birthday. Windy and cold. We went to city in AM. Merrill deposited $4500 check at Seaway bank. They gave us lamps. We paid for feed at city. We went to funeral home for Mrs. Hagan. Mary went with us. Cold in evening. Very cold wind.
