Diary Entry for 7/19/1972

I got 4-H Fair Cards and Blanks. We went to Adams Center, twice, and license bureau. Went down to Jim’s with new car. Very hot and muggy. Merrill helped Pat put on house siding in evening.

Still hot and muggy. Foggy in morning. Merrill called Dr. Roberts but x-ray reports not back. I went to Philadelphia for groceries. Wagon seems so big. Put $2300 check in bank. I took 4-H blanks to some.

Jefferson County Fair Starts. Oats lodge terrible from storm. We went to church. Bill M. and kids had service. Paul Worden speaker. A great service. We took Lyle’s picnic table home in wagon. Talked with several 4-H kids. Rained hard in evening. Took 4-H blanks to kids.

Vern’s called. Took 4-H kids to Fair. Took Marie, Jamie, Linda, Nora, and Debbie G. Lorraine went with Mary. They took calves this year. Jim and Jolie here for dinner. Patty went to Tupperware meeting at Syracuse. Brancatella kids over . Also Dawn. Got new check books.

Boots and I went to Philadelphia bank and grocery store. Merrill helped on Pat’s house Rained hard all PM. I made yellow and green summer dress. Lorraine called. She won Grand Champion award on her calf at fair.

Don’t birthday. Sent him card and letter. Forgot to send it yesterday. Merrill went to Gouverneur in morning. He helped Pat on house in PM. Dawn almost got hit by car on bike in road. Rained hard in evening. Got pictures back.

Angie Brancatella’s birthday, 9 years old. I mowed 2 lawns. Merrill did banks. Merrill helped at Pat’s siding. I washed clothes in evening. Boots and I went to Philadelphia for groceries.

I took Debbie G, Nora and Linda out after fair stuff. Also picked up Marie’s. We got points and plugs for lawn mower but they didn’t work. Merrill went to Whites. They were closed and then to Floods. He fixed lawn mower and finished lawns. I washed rugs.

Dr. Scanlon, 10:15 AM. I didn’t get out until 12:45. Everything OK. Beulah Hall there. She has to have growth removed. Martha Meeks came after bed rail while we were gone. Jim, Pat and Jolie here for supper. We went over to Pat and Loraine’s in evening.

Very rainy. Merrill went to Philadelphia in PM and evening to see Carl Killenbest and Jim Matteson about Hall, IOOF, coffee house. Merrill raked hay in morning but it got wet. Rained hard all night.

Gave Boots 2nd worm pill. Real cold last night. Cool all day. We baled one load of hay. Cut off a dozen shear bolts. Merrill went to Theresa for more. Washed my hair. Washed clothes. Cleaned house.

Cindy’s 11th birthday. Cloudy day. We went to church. Went for drive in PM. Stopped at Family bargain Store. It is much larger now. I got 2 pair sandals and brown slacks, $5. Bill M. called in evening. Gave OK on IOOF. Called Billy.

I helped clean church. Got rolls from Agnes Trembley’s Guild. Esther and Hazel took some of them. Merrill worked at chopping. Dawn was over. She has been sick. Lisa and Donna here after milk. Wrote poem for Leah for Assembly President. Kids are painting house.

Sent Holly card and $1. I went to Revival Meeting. Stopped for Vi and Susan. Was out doors on school ball park. Got Centennial plates and book. Vern’s here when I got home. I went to Philadelphia for groceries.

We went to church service. Also Singspiration at 3:00 PM. Both out doors. Millicent and Debby went with us. Debby sang, “Let It Be”. Millicent, Debby, and I went to inside evening service, great. A great week end. Got the Now Dimensions record, $5.

Nice today. Sun out all day. Merrill chopped four load of grass in silo. Wrote kids, Vern’s. Merrill went back of ledge to mow hay but pasture too wet to get across. Called Aunt Maude. Sent car insurance, $157.

Rained about all night, 16-17th night. Mom called in evening to say Brenda and Bill Draper have baby boy born around 5 PM, Mark William, 8 pounds, 3 oz. Merrill chopped 3 load of grass. Finished field across road.

Raining as usual. Wrote Uncle Berl. We went to Philadelphia for groceries. Merrill got hair cut at Theresa. Dawn was over. Called Aunt Maude. Marshall and Vicki have bought land near Calcium for trailer.

Sent baby card and letter to Brenda and Bill. Merrill chopped 3 load of grass. I washed porch windows. Made corn flake cookies. Donna here twice. Also Dawn. Jeff here in evening. A beautiful day.

Vern, June and boys got here about 3:30. Vern had eye appointment. Everything OK. Jim, Pat, and Jolie came for supper. Pat, and Jolie rode home with Vern’s. Steve stayed up until Sunday. Vern and June have new 1972 red and brown Chevrolet wagon.

Sent anniversary card and letter to Vern and June. Steve and I went to Philadelphia for groceries. Merrill and Steve got 2 load of grass. Centennial Clothing review at 8 PM at Legion. Steve and I gave Boots a bath. His first one.

Hot and muggy. Merrill chopped 1 load of grass. We went to Centennial Parade in evening. Dawn and Debby went with us. Huge parade and huge crowd. Called Aunt Maude. Merrill and Steve washed car for 1st time.

Vern and June’s 12th anniversary. We took Steve home. Vern’s took us to tour the college. Showed us his new office. Also 700 foot smoke stack. Rained just terrible on way home. Worse near Pulaski. Kids dining room is just beautiful.

Sent 2 Readers Digest orders, ours and Vern’s. Sent no money, $9.94 by January 15. I took Millicent to Dr. Roberts. We spent afternoon in city doing errands. Ate supper at Miles Restaurant. Called Jim. Jolie is walking. Called Mom. Don has bulk tank in.

Sent Jim card and $10. Aunt Maude called to say her brother, Otis, died night before last. Got school taxes, $287.40. I went to Ennis after chopper belt, $60. Got 30 pound tin of strawberries at Agway, $12.20. Merrill chopped 2 load grass. Nice day. I got groceries at Philadelphia.

Otis Easton’s funeral 9:30 AM. Aunt Maude, Cathy, Lila, Cheryl, Grace and Chris went to funeral. Merrill ordered stone for pasture road. Brought two loads today. Sent Steve newspaper on parade. Belt on chopper ripped. Can’t get one until Tuesday. Leah called in evening.

We went to church. Cloudy and rainy and cold all day We took Boots for ride in PM. Drove over past Vicky and Marshall’s new trailer located near Calcium. Karen Ann Hill, 8 found murdered at city last night. Arthur Sharcross arrested for it today.

Labor Day. Merrill got stuck in pasture with rake. Hay too green to rake. Jim, Pat, and Jolie here for PM and supper. Jim has been sick with cold. colder today. Gave Jim Centennial book. $110,000 in Jerry Lewis Telethon.

School starts. The body of Jack Blake, 10 years, found today. Missing since May 7th. Found in woods on Bradley Street. We baled 1 load of hay. wheel came off wagon. Graham’s here in evening. They are going to finish hay on halves. Had flat tire on baler.
