Diary Entry for 2/3/1972

Charge Conference at Mills, 8 PM. Covered dish supper at 7 PM. We didn’t go. I was sick in bed all day with the flu bug. Terrible head ache and temperature. Got Readers Digest book, also Digest.

Power off during night about 3 hours. Terrible stormy. No mail. Most roads blocked. No school. I got dressed today. Washed bedding. Merrill put bucket on tractor for first time. Didn’t clean barn.

Church Building Committee Meeting, 2 PM. We didn’t get to it. Merrill plowed driveways for over 4 hours without stopping. He broke shafting lever on tractor. Hall’s cleaned barn. Called Vern’s. They are snow bound with no power when I called. Mail and milk went.

0° this morning. 20° during the day. I taught Released class. First I’ve been out in a week. Called Times about paper. Haven’t got it this week. Got letter from Mother Tryon. Went to Lodge in evening. Committee of 4 from school system present.

Marie here in AM to sew. Donna Stevens with her. Nancy Rose and Suzanne here to cut out Centennial dress. Cleaned house in PM. Called 4-H kids in evening about cards to me mailed. I broke long hand off cookoo clock.

I went to Bible Study. Margaret G in charge. We went to city for eye drops. Went down to Jim’s. Pat’s father visited them for a few days for the first time. Marie here to sew after school. Vickie here in PM. Jane and Dougie here after her.

Mother T’s 83rd birthday. Sent the Blankenships in Georgia 50th anniversary card. [? 50?] Merrill helped on minister’s study putting on paneling in AM. I didn’t have to teach Released time as Esther is back. Got Valentine and note from June. She addressed it wrong. Willis Hogaboom died in Mercy Hospital.

Pres. and Mrs. R Nixon to start on trip to China at 10 AM. Heard on radio this morning that Bill Horton, 62 died last night, my 2nd first cousin to die. Alice Carr was first one. Vern’s called. Are coming tomorrow night. Called Mom in evening. Washed clothes. Merrill worked at Parsonage.

Gary and JoAnne Pastor have baby boy born at 11:30, 6 lb, 9 oz, Gary Patrick. We went to funeral home for Bill. All 6 kids got home. Vern’s got here about 6 PM for supper. Brenda is pregnant, August.

Bill Hogaboom’s funeral at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 11 AM. We didn’t go as it started snowing hard. Vern got to meeting at Conference Center but left early. Got home at 2:00. Going bad. Called Jim.

Everything plugged in AM. Got dug out at noon,. Vern’s car wouldn’t start. Used Howard’s heater. Kids left at 2 PM. Called at 4:15. Roads rough. Oswego got more snow than here. Marie here to sew.

Winter vacation, no school. 4-H Dress Evaluation at Philadelphia Fire Hall. I took five of girls. Sharon was judge. 10 below in morning. No mail. Marie, Jamie, Nora and Linda got blue. Judy, Jackie, Debbie, Vicki, Lorraine, red. Jim, Pat and Jolie here for supper and evening.

No school. I have headache. I got Bible, The Living Bible Paraphrased from Christianity Today. Got magazine for one year, $7.50. Merrill cleaned out driveways with blade. I went to Bible Study at Wheeler’s with Ruth Eg in evening.

No school. I went to Philadelphia to bank and grocery store. Cleaned house. Washed clothes. Got letter from Uncle Berl. Sent income tax, $522.60. Sent Life insurance, $54. -10° at 7 AM, 22° during day.

Pres. Nixon and staff land back in Alaska from China. Back in Washington in evening. Merrill cleaned out dishwasher strainers. He went to Theresa for washer seal. Wesley Grahams have trailer by cemetery. Wasn’t there yesterday.

Leap Year. Warmer. I went to Bible Study. Margaret G had lesson on prayer. Nice lesson. Minister’s study is so nice. Wrote Uncle Berl and Ruth Schell. We went to Vic Delles’ wake. They took Eva to Bay hospital. Bob called in evening. Doors are here. Chief Tousette retires.
