Diary Entry for 12/17/1971

4-H Christmas party here. Both clubs. 48 here. All had nice time. Hank S and Evelyn led singing. Snowed hard by spells. Roads slippery. I got several nice gifts. All 4-H er’s present but Debby Hall. She is working at Gouverneur.

Sharon’s 18th birthday. We went to church. Went to Elmer and Josie Langto’s open house for their 50th anniversary. Snowing hard in PM. Roads slippery. Christmas program at church in evening. It was beautiful. Bobby Griffin star in The Littlest Angel.

Cloudy day but warming. Got note from Eleanor. Wants us to come for dinner Christmas. Made dipped chocolates and pumpkin bread. Helped pack shut in boxes in PM at church. Cheryl brought us gifts in evening.

No Bible Study. We went to Wolcott. Stopped at Vern’s for dinner and coffee on way home. Christmas lights so pretty coming home. Saw Kessel, Grace and Merrill saw Elmer at gas station. A few snow flurries coming home. Got letter from June.

Rebekah Christmas meeting, 6:30 covered dish supper. Nice meeting but hall was cold so came home early. We went to Gouverneur in PM. Stopped to see Clara Wallace on way home. Sent Donna card, letter, and $1. Down to zero in evening. Got letter from Uncle Berl.

Called Jim’s. Jolie has tooth, first. Christmas vacation starts. Got cord of wood from Dema’s son-in-law, $7. Cut dead elm for us, $8. Merrill sold 6 heifers to Leland Shannon for Harry Gleason $1300. Allan Keichel, 10, killed by train accident. Paul Keichel hurt. about 4:15. Got 5 lb cheese from Milk Plant.

Sent card to Keichels. Made Birthday layer cake and decorated cookies. Cleaned house. Washed clothes. Washed my hair. Vi called. They go to Martha’s tonight. Vic Delles in hospital. Rainy. Snow all gone now. Christmas Eve service at church. We went. Had our gifts to each other in evening.

Invited to Ken’s for dinner. We went. Bowman’s and Mom there also. Mom came home with us. We stopped at hospital to see Paul Keichel. We went up to Keichels in evening. House full. Casket was open. A green Christmas Day. Last one was in 1964

Alan Keichel, 10, funeral at 2 PM at church. We didn’t go as we had our Christmas here. Vern’s got here about 10 AM. Jim’s at 11 AM. Aunt Maude spent day with us. All got nice gifts. Jim’s left about 9 PM. A nice Christmas. Had Jesus birthday cake. Steve read Christmas story.

Bill and Vi here to see the New Year in. Bar-B-Q hamburgers over fire. Vi and I went to city shopping. We stopped by Jim and Pat’s. Pat was taking down Christmas decorations. Got yellow dress material. Zero degrees in morning.
