The New Year came in at 18° below zero. Cold all day. We went to Theresa funeral home for Ruth Seaton. Millicent Hale went with us. I took chocolate cake to Ruth’s. Talked with Aunt Maude, Vi and Mrs. Hutchinson.

Took down decorations. 12° below at 7:30 AM. Merrill took off head of tractor. I took it to Fred Hills to have valve ground. I stopped at Ken and Brenda’s to leave kids gift. Vi and I went to city. We shopped at Seaway. Stopped at Jim’s. We went to hospital to get Mrs. Hutchinson. Rev. H not good yet.

Wrote Vern’s. Merrill went to Fry’s for tractor parts. Mrs. Hutchinson rode to hospital with him. Debbie G. here to sew in AM. Betty stopped in awhile. Nora L here to sew in PM. Howard cleaned our barn. Ran out of gas. Uncle Sam Taff died today, 86 years old.

10° below. I called Piddocks Funeral home. Called Melba. Uncle Sam’s funeral is Tuesday at 2 PM. I went to church. Rev. Harlow Dolliber preached. Rev. H not too good.

Sent Ken birthday card. Stormy. 4 inches of snow in Pulaski. I have had headache all day. Joe Leone Murder trial started today. 3 Eagans murdered 5 years ago.

Uncle Sam Taff funeral at Adams. We went. Only us as relatives there. Rev M Hutchinson preached. Nice flowers. Several friends there. WSCS at Vi Mowers. Only 11 out. Jim and Pat here for supper. She got supper. Got letter from Uncle Berl and Lettie. Ken’s 50th birthday.

I’m getting a cold. Nice day but lazy day around here. Nora Lamuca here in evening to work on her dress. Below zero in evening

Very stormy. Adams section very bad. Wrote Ruth and Virgil Street about farewell party. Storm all day but roads open. Made popcorn in evening.

Everything at a standstill in city because of snow storm. No schools open. Some roads are closed. Merrill plowed out driveways. He went to Theresa in PM to bank and for groceries. I washed. Made cookies and donuts.

Washed. Ironed some. Cleaned. Ruth Eg was here in PM. She has cold. Brought home my cake plate. I called Mary in evening. Got book from Uncle Berl. New Moon Rising. Down to zero in evening at 7:30 PM

Still cold. We went to church. Rev Oot preached. Rev. H able to eat liquids now. He is up around now.

I have horrid headache. Couldn’t go to Guild at Marguerites. John Keichel to show slides on Laos. Andy our black cat is missing. Merrill went to Philadelphia to bank. Donna called today. Mary has pneumonia. Sent Merrill’s accident insurance, $19.

I feel much better today. Merrill went to Mills. Jim and Pat here for supper. Howard and Evelyn brought Andy home. Been gone since Sunday night. Ronnie and Sharon Sinclair had baby boy this morning. 4 1/2 lb. Called Halls.

Rebekah’s. Several out despite 12° below. Mary sick with pneumonia. Wrote Uncle Berl. Sent money in full for Sabre Saw. Called Ruth. Ronnie’s baby is named Shannon Drew, 4 1/2 lb. Is in an incubator.

28° below zero during night. I took Mrs. Hutchinson to hospital in morning. Got groceries at P & C. Saw Dorothy Hogaboom. Called Mom. I got my hair cut, washed, and set at Patty Thornton’s $4.75. Merrill started working on income tax. Paula Hutton 15, had twin girls.

4-H here at 7:30. 7 girls here sewing. Much warmer 36° in evening. Was below zero this morning. Merrill shoveled walk. Haven’t used it in weeks, T he snow was so deep. Wrote Mother Tryon. Merrill worked on income tax.

Warmer and snowing. Wrote Doreen and sent her birthday card and money. I didn’t have to go to city for Mrs. Hutchinson as planned. She got a ride home. Rev. H somewhat better.

We went to church. Cold but nice. Lazy day. 500 Marines arrived at Camp Drum in below zero weather for winter training from South Carolina.

PNG at Lois Hanlon’s. I didn’t go as it was so cold. 12° below at 7 PM and 22° below during night. Doreen’s 13th birthday, a teenager now.

I took Mrs. Hutchinson to city in morning. We shopped on square. I stopped at Seaway. We got gifts for Paula Hutton’s twins.

10° below at 7 AM. Mrs. Hutchinson and I went out after Rev. Hutchinson at hospital at 9:30 AM. He has been in there 5 weeks and 1 day. Sure glad to be home again. Cold wind. Below zero all day. Merrill has rash on hands. First Atlantic Crossing of Boeing 747 passenger flight.

Jim’s 2nd anniversary as policeman. 25° below zero during night. We have had below zero weather for 18 days this month so far. Below zero all day. Paula’s shower. I didn’t go. Karen called. Her Stanley Party changed to Monday evening.

Warmer and snowy. Lois Hanlon called to say they are cleaning the church basement at 1 PM tomorrow. Got fire insurance notice $310.35. 12 below in evening.

24 below zero at 7 AM. We went to Theresa for groceries. Washed clothes and cleaned house. I helped clean at church in basement where furnace blew up. Took cat food to parsonage.

Warmer, 20° in morning. Cloudy. Toby here in morning. Wade still in hospital. We went to church. Rev. Dolliber preached. Lazy day. Some snow in evening.

Washed clothes. Merrill went to Philadelphia bank. Called on Rev H and took him box of candy. Church got check for $400 for smoke damage in basement. Gary Pastor here in PM looking for Jim.

Sent land taxes, $154.72. Sent WSCS evaluation reports. Jim and Pat here in PM and for supper. She did most of her washing. Jim is coaching kids at Sacred Heart Church in basketball. Audrey Puffer, Mary Landon, and Edna Cross birthdays.

Rebekah’s. I didn’t go. Very windy and stormy in evening. Agway dinner at noon at church. Only 14 there. Had that many workers. Merrill and I went to Sears in PM. Bought new cook range on inventory sale. $316.94. A woman was murdered at W. Carthage.

A lot less snow this morning. Rainy and windy during night. Temperature 40°. Thawing all day. Snow very dirty. Merrill broke road back in pasture. Got letter from Juanita. Don wants us to come out Sunday, Also Ken’s.

Snowed during night. Everything white again. Carl Scee called. I went to Philadelphia in morning Got groceries. Went to bank. Got Jim Nabors record at Big M. Wrote Post Office about Good Housekeeping Magazine. John W called me. Aunt Maude called. I called Karen. Wade is good.

10° below last night. Merrill went to Mills after cow scours gun. Sharon and Debby here to sew. I cut out and sewed on black dress. Sleeves and hem yet to do.
