Labor Day. Hot. Merrill fitted ground back on 17 acres. Jim, Pat, Gary and JoAnne here for supper. Had been to Canton on cycles. Cactus has 2 blossoms out in evening.

Jim’s 26th birthday. WSCS at church. Jim and Pat here for supper. Gave Him $10 for pants. Toby and Wade here in evening awhile. I went to WSCS. Guild members there also. Pat and JoAnne were having a party for Jim. I wrote Dot. I got white blouse at Robert Halls.

School starts. Full day. Nice day. Merrill worked on barn. Men finished combining Hall’s oats. We aren’t combining what few oats we had this year. They aren’t worth it.

Hot sun. Merrill shingled on barn. I mowed lawns. Sent Jim’s check to bank and sent his life insurance.

I went to city for groceries. Stopped at Philadelphia bank to deposit $2500 check from Pro and Credit. Merrill worked at shingling barn all day. Cloudy and muggy. Six local men arrested on drug traffic counts in evening.

Rained during night. Toby here all day helping with barn drain. Karen and JoAnne came after him in evening. I washed clothes. Washed car. Washed my hair in evening. Very humid day.

Church back on regular time, 11:15. We went. Rev. and Mrs. H here in evening. Rainy and hot and humid. We went up to Uncle Len’s in PM. Ate lunch at Johnny’s Inn. Sen. Everett Dirkson, from Ill. died today of cancer.

Garmon Andrew Roggie Jr. 20, killed in car accident near Belleville. Patty, Jim and Gary here for supper. Doris Haggerty called in evening. Washed clothes.

Merrill combined 10 bags of oats. He stored machinery and cleaned up around building. Took milk cooler back to dump. Eleanor called in AM about flowers. Defrosted freezer in evening. Also refrigerator.

Rebekah’s. I went. Good turn out. Buddy Roggie’s funeral. Aunt Maude went with us. Huge funeral. church put on dinner at church afterwards. Jim, Pat here for supper. Married 4 months today. Got letter from Dot.

I went to Philadelphia to bank and for groceries. Merrill got out chopper and blower. It rained off and on all PM. Cleaned house. 14 Past Grands had covered dish supper at Beulah and Les Hall’s cottage at Clayton. I went with Vi. Lovely evening.

Very windy. Merrill cut road through corn by hand. Chopped first load this year. I have headache. Jim’s reclassification from draft board came, 5-A

I mowed front lawn in evening. Jim and Pat here for supper. Jim helped put up silo pipe. Merrill got yard light back up.

We went to church. We went to Aunt Cora’s at Sackets Harbor in PM. Mother T, Grace and Marvin were there. There was a “fly-in” breakfast at airport. Lots of cars and planes.

PNG at Marge’s cottage. Vivian and I went with Martha Brown. 16 PG and 3 guests. Lois and Martha drove. Merrill chopped 4 loads of corn for first. Kenny called in evening. I called Pat. Jim sick with sore throat. They didn’t get out. Albert P started Hall’s garage.

Beulah and Les here for supper. Also Jim, Pat and Gary. Rained in PM. Vern and June called in evening. They are coming weekend after next. Merrill chopped 1 load of corn. Bought new Electrolux cleaner from Lloyd Overton $220.

Laurie Pastor’s 1st birthday. Raining all day. We went to Mills and Seaway. Saw Fran at Grants. Used my new cleaner. Rev. H called to ask us to donate ham for supper September 25th. Cost $4.39

Wrote Uncle Berl. First frost last night. Cleaned house. Washed. Jim and Pat here in PM and supper. Jim’s corn knife went through chopper. Broke chopper blade. Bill M here with fuel oil for first this fall. Toby, Karen and Wade here in evening. Merrill chopped corn in AM.

Hard frost during night. Merrill called Fulton about chopper blade. Wrote Vern and sent him birthday card and $5. Merrill went to Altons’s for Schell’s chopper. Jim came out in PM to help. Was here for supper. I made Ritz Cracker apple pie. Sent piece to Pat. Gave Jim $10. Nice day but cool.

Joan Graham married today. Jim and Pat moved to 105 Bishop Street, across driveway from 1025 Washington Street. Jim called in evening. Toby here to help with corn. Karen came for him at supper time. I went to Philadelphia for groceries.

Vern’s 33rd birthday. Cloudy day. Cool. We didn’t go to church. We went out to Jim and Pat’s new apartment. Will be real nice when they get settled. JoAnne and Laurie were there. Also Jim Decker. We went out to Mom’s. Aunt Keitha there this week.

17 load of corn in the silo. Beautiful warm day. I painted on milk house. Jim and Gary here on cycles. Pat came with car for some of their wedding gifts. Ironed clothes. I called dentist. Got appointment for 11 AM tomorrow. Talked with Aunt Maude. Kids had Gary and JoAnne for supper for first supper guests.

Dentist at 11 AM. I had front tooth and the one on left filled, $11, at Theresa. Jim, Pat, and Gary P here. Boys helped fill silo. Pat took back load of stuff. Worked on 4-H Reports in evening. Sent school tax $253.28. Got letter from June.

Rebekah’s election of officers. Mary Hall NG. Betty Rudes VG, Vi Sec. I’m treasurer again. Lois Hanlon is secretary. Merrill took car to Gouverneur to get it inspected. Rained in PM. I made pies, cake and cookies. Wrote Vern’s. Charlotte Hale had operation this morning. 23 loads of corn in silo.

Smorgasbord at church. We furnished ham. $4.39. Cloudy, cold day. Merrill chopped 4 load of corn. I went to Seaway for groceries. Sharon Hall and Cathy Ayen in accident on corner. Taken to hospital.

Vern’s got here at 4:30. Jim and Pat here for supper also. Merrill filled silo all day. Four loads. I cleaned house. Put other twin bed back in Jim’s room.

Martha Brown’s birthday. Vern’s left about 6 PM. Jim and Pat here in PM and for supper. Jim had to get back for work. Merrill put in one load of corn. Men got flood light on barn hooked up.

We went out to Jim and Pat’s for our first dinner with them. Had a lovely dinner and day. We went to church. They had a dinner after church to use up food from smorgasbord. I finished Lodge treasurer’s book for audit in evening.

No school. Audit Lodge books at Marguerites. Marguerite was sick so we went to Lois H. Merrill filled silo. 34 loads in. 4-H talent show at city. Debby sang. Very good. She got blue ribbon. Millicent, Donna, Dan Pearse and Sue B went. Sue played.

Rebekah’s President Selma Jukin’s official visit. Black River Lodge. I went. Mary, Carrie T, Minnie P, Leila, and Elsie went with me. Merrill worked at corn. Put in 4 loads, 169 at Rebekah’s meeting.
