Went over home for chicken dinner. Went to Smithville in afternoon to see Dee Smith. Rome, Italy was taken today. Is second anniversary of Midway.

Washed clothes. Dot & Evelyn were down. President Roosevelt made speech on the fall of Rome.

INVASION started during night. Nothing on radio except D-Day. Arlene & Alice W. were here. Went over home in evening.

Jimmy & I went down to Marg’s & stayed all day.Got letter from Loren. He has to go across soon. Merrill was over home.

Went to Smithville & Adams in PM. Wrote to Loren. Got car fixed. Evelyn was here for supper.

Arlene was here. Got graduation invitation from her today. Painted some of kitchen. Mother & Daughter banquet tonight.

Finished painting kitchen. Don & Evelyn were here. Brought us a fudgecicle from Lacona.

Dot helped me paper part of kitchen. Got True Story. Merrill went to Adams & had a tooth pulled, one filled & cleaned.

Did Jimmy’s wash. Vernon picked wild strawberries for cake. Baked birthday cake, doughnuts & pies. Evelyn & Arlene were here. Merrill & Vernon went to Lorraine in evening. Brought home a quart of ice cream. 60 ¢.

Mother, Dad & Don were up for dinner. Gave Mother writing paper & dish for birthday. Raining & cloudy.

Still raining to cloudy. Dot was down. Colored Arlene’s gloves. Can’t get slip covers. Mowed lawns.

Arlene was down. Vernon got out of school at 11:00 today. Picked enough strawberries for cake from our own patch.

Evelyn, Arlene, Dot, & Oren Jr. were here. Canned pie plant & strawberries. Worked in garden. Vernon got out of school for vacation.

Went to Watertown & got my glasses fixed. Left Jimmy at Mom’s. Had terrible thunder storm last night. Rained all day too.

Canned 6 pint strawberries. Went over home in PM. & got 2 little pigs. ($10.00 for 2)

Made strawberry jelly. Washed clothes. Evelyn & Arlene were down. Arlene graduates tonight from high school. Vernon got new suit & raincoat.

Wrote “V [mail]” letter to Francis H. Evelyn, Dot & Arlene were here. Vernon, Jimmy & I went up to Barkers in evening. I drove the car up. First time. Canned 2 quarts strawberries.

Canned 4 quarts strawberries. Dot & Evelyn were here. Terrible hot.

Florence gave me small fern. Canned 5 1/2 quarts strawberries. Went up to Florence & Earle’s in evening for potatoes. Mowed yards. Wrote letter to Mother T.
