Friday the 13th. Got two letters from Jim. He is in Evreux Air Force Base Hospital, France. Edie & Floyd Wallace, Carrie Janesh, Aunt Keitha, & Mom, came for supper & stayed overnight. Merrill combined at Art’s.

Folks left about 10:00 AM. Patty Preston & Paul Lawton married today. Slight frost last night. I went to city for TV & groceries. Firemen Convention at Theresa. Wrote Jim. Joan & Jim Allen have baby girl, Sherri Lyn. Have blacktop past our corner.

Nice day. Merrill & I went to church. Merrill put other garage door on & put in 3 windows.

Got letter from Jim, & June & Vern. Jim is still at Evreux AFB. He has a slipped disk.

I went to St. Regis open house with Evelyn, Leah, & kids. I went out home after Mom in evening. Merrill finished combining at Art’s. Farrell brought new blade.

Got letter from Jim. Still al Evreux. Signed for Successful Farming, 84 issues. Took Mom lo city for eye appointment & then home. She had both lenses changed, $18.00. Fred Cook started chopping corn. I went to first Home Bureau meeting as chairman at Ruth Eggleston’s.

Got letter from Jim. He thought he would have back operation today. Freddie Cook & hired man here for dinner. Chopped corn. Got birth announcement, Joan Hatch Allen has baby girl.

Vernon’s 21st birthday. Fred Cook finished corn, $135.00,Three here for dinner. I worked on cafeteria church supper in dining room. Wrote Jim.

We went to church. Kenny & Brenda were here for dinner & PM. Called Vern & June. Wrote Jim.

Got letter from Jim about his operation. He was to have it at 8:30 Friday, September 29th. Wrote Jim & Marg. Brought 2 load of lime. Merrill worked on garage floor. I washed & ironed.

Merrill combined 1 bag of grass seed. Still no word from Jim. I went up to post office in PM. Wrote Jim.

I didn’t go to lodge. Election of officers. Gehm’s called. Marg called. No word from Jim. Called Red Cross. Should have heard by now how Jim is. Merrill put in garage cement floor on one side. Washed car. Beautiful day.

Wrote Jim. Got letter from Jim. He came through operation good. Red Cross called to report also. I went to city in PM for groceries. Talked with Aunt Cora & Mom. Wrote June & Vern.

Merrill went out to help Don bale straw. I didn’t go. Mowed lawns, painted windows, baked. Wrote Jim & Mother Tryon. 72° today.

Don & Bea Gehm came about 11 :30 AM. They white washed our barn, $17.00. No letter from Jim. Cloudy. Wrote Jim.

We went to Hanson Bridge at Rossie. Gehm’s left about 5:00 PM. Howard & Evelyn were here in evening. Played cards. Rained.

Have blacktop to Route 11 at Philadelphia. Nice day. Mary & I went to city & up to Aunt Cora’s to learn how to make smocked pillows. Carleton Alton & Merrill went out to Don’s for load of straw. Wrote Jim.

Got letter from Jim post marked Black River, New York. Merrill sprained ankle. Lynn was here. I went up to Aunt Cora’s. I went to W.S.C.S. at Margaret Waters. Mrs. Hewitt spoke on India. Wrote Jim twice.

In the 70s. Merrill started plowing. Washed. Got thank you card from Gehm’s. Joan called. Sent Brenda card. Wrote Jim.

Brenda’s 11th birthday. Got letter from Jim. He is coming OK. Hasn’t had any of our mail yet. I taught Home Bureau lesson on pillows at Theresa. Wrote Jim & Marg.

Lula, Elsie, Marg W, Marg M, & I went to W.S.C.S. conference & meeting at First Methodist Church at city. Very nice. We went to Leslie Riley’s wake in evening. Was to Vi’s after. Wrote Jim.

Grand day. I went to city for groceries & Home Bureau stuff for auction. Merrill & I went over to woods after spreader wheel. Got letter from· Mother Tryon. Sent Jim Card. I was over to Evelyn’s in evening.

We went to church. Went to Les & Beulah’s for dinner & PM. Nice day. Finished first pillow.

Mary Hall’s auction. Our Home Bureau sold lunch. Cleared $32.00. Got letter from Jim. He is getting our mail now. Wrote Jim. Kenny called.

Merrill fell and hurt his back in barn. Wrote Jim, Vern & June. Mom called. Neighbors are doing Don’s corn today. There was a bear at Lamica’s last night.

Ken, Eleanor, kids, & Tom Thompson came about 4:00 PM. They had been to Syracuse first to get Tom. He is out of the service. Has been in Hawaii. Brought 2 bushel apples & gallon of cider.

Got letter from Jim. He went back to Toulon October 12th. I went up to Pat Holkin’s to plan election day dinner. Lamphere’s brought rest of stuff for garage.

Nettie Smith was in accident at Theresa. I went to city for groceries. Ordered turkeys for church supper. Wrote June & Vern & sent farm payment. Pat Allen 44 died today in Buffalo.

Home Bureau here in evening. I gave lesson on baking ingredients. 6 present.
