Merrill worked at barn roof. Norma Payne was here in PM. Cleaned. Mowed some of lawn but mower quit Went over to Hall’s in evening until 2:00 AM.

We went to church. Went for ride to Gouverneur, Rensselaer Falls, & Ogdensburg. Discovered state boat launch on Payne Lake.

Made donuts & cupcakes. Merrill worked at barn roof. Elmer, Melba, Carolyn, Charlotte, & Leon came tonight. Spent night here. Merrill took lawn mower to Whites lawn supply.

Got letter from Uncle Berle. Ice cream social canceled because of rain. Stevie here all day. Vern, June, Nancy Schaffer, & Ursula Hutton went to seaway. Elmer, Melba & kids went to Whiteface Mountain.

Cold. Got letter from Jim. They won 3rd place trophy on rifle team. He has put in for leave for August 15th. Washed & ironed. Made pickles.

Wrote Jim. Sent him $50.00. We went to city. Got 6 gallon paint for trim. Got lawn mower at White’s, $22.57. Mom called in evening. Oren Barker is in hospital.

Wrote Vern’s. Sent Cindy card. Sent notice to Times about W.S.C.S. & Jim’s Rifle meet. Mowed lawns. Hot. Put cows in meadow for first.

Cindy’s birthday, 5 years old. Lucy Johnson’s big wedding in Washington to Pat Nugent. Merrill finished barn roof. Shed roof yet to do. We went to Fireman’s doings at Evans Mills.

We went to church. Had cook out at noon. Beulah & Les here in PM. Hall kids were over in evening to play croquet. Hot.

Washed. Merrill built fence by oats. Wrote Jim. Toby Morrow here in evening.

W.S.C.S. at Kavanaughs in Adams. 12 members & Ruth Carter went. Elsie & I drove. Called Mom from Adams. Merrill combined Hale’s oats. Martha & Skip Roberts have baby girl. 95° with thunder storms in evening. Struck at Ivan Hales. Vern called in evening.

Ice cream social. Good crowd. Made about $100.00 for Sunday school. We went to hospital to see Oren Barker. Dot, Evelyn, & Greg there. Kids here in evening to go to social. Stayed all night. Got letter from Dot Talcott.

Rainy. Kids left at 9:30 AM. Eleanor called. Elgin, Olive, & Leah are coming there for weekend.

Raining. Washed. Ironed. Holly’s birthday, 6 years old. Party at Orv & Angie Haggerty’s for Kathryn & Chuck. Grand time. Got home at 2:00AM.

I went to city for groceries in AM. Washed bed spreads. Carrie Thompson & I cleaned church.

We went to church. MYF had service. Mo, Elgin, Olive, Leah, & Wilhemina came for supper. We all went up to Uncle Ray’s in evening. Mom & Leah stayed here.

I took Mom & Canada folks to city shopping & sight seeing. Grand day but rainy. Folks left for home in evening. Had supper at Uncle Ray’s.

Rainy. Thunder storm in morning. Took Mom home. She got new winter coat at Weston’s on way. Merrill got work shoes, $12.00. Brenda came home with us. Stormed in evening again.

Raining. We went out to Mom’s. Got her living room ceiling stripped. David & Debbie came home with us. Brenda came back out too. Got letter from Melba. Leslie is in hospital,

Wrote Melba & Leslie. Merrill went out to help finish Mom’s ceiling. I mowed lawns. I took kids to Starlite Drive-in in evening. Saw Elvis Presley movie.

Merrill combined 3 acres of oats at Schell’s. Started combining our own oats. I finished mowing lawn by barn. Got letter from Jim.

Washed clothes. Got note from Olive & Elgin. Kids & I went swimming to Crystal Lake. Took Brenda, David, & Debbie home in evening. Stopped at Weston’s. Merrill combined oats. Called Vern’s. Cactus plant blossomed.

W.S.C.S. Sunday. We didn’t go to church. Vern, June, & Steven here for dinner & all night. We all went over to Hall’s in evening.

Kids left at 10:00 AM. Rained all day. Froze corn.

Karen’s 2nd birthday. Sent Karen card. Wrote Olive. Merrill worked some on air vent in bathroom. Raining.

Merrill finished bathroom vent. Washed & ironed. Rained some. Got letters from Melba & Dot Talcott.

Merrill started painting barn trim. I went to city for groceries. Had to go by Hall’s Comers as Theresa put in sluices by Graham’s. Rained in evening.

Sent kids card. Painted porch. Sent in film & negatives for slides of Jim. Merrill painted on barn. Combined oats in PM. Hurt my finger washing off paint. Got letter from Mother Tryon & Wilhemina. Aunt Maude called in evening.

Vern & June’s 6th anniversary. I painted lawn bricks, steps, & mail box. Hot. Thunder storm in PM. Merrill combined. Mowed lawns.

We went to church. Rev. H was back from 2 weeks vacation. We went to open house for Mr. & Mrs. Vernon Campbell’s 50th anniversary at Roy K. Beautiful day.

Washed clothes. Merrill combined oats. Hot both day & evening.

Merrill finished combining our oats, 180 bags. Made blue shorts. Merrill baled oats for Howard.

Last day of August & Jim didn’t make it home in August. I went to city

Dot Talcott’s birthday. Painted on house trim. Merrill mowed straw. Hot & nice. Telephone men strung new telephone cable. Eleanor, her mother, & kids came about 10:30 PM.

Jim’s 23rd birthday. He got home about 11:00 AM. Kenny met him in the city (bus). Vern’s came about 4:00. Eleanor’s left about 1:00. Hall’s were over for birthday party.

Vern’s left in forenoon. Toby here for supper. We took Jim out to Grandma Hanson’s. Boys went to drive in.

Howard, Evelyn, kids, Merrill, Jim, & I went to Vern & June’s for picnic. Nice time but raining. Mother Tryon, Carl, Doris, & Marvin here to spend night.

Labor Day. Mother Tryon, Carl, Doris, & Marvin left about 2:00 PM. Kenny, Brenda, & Kim here for supper. Men mowed lawns.

W.S.C.S. at Marguerite Beach’s. Jim went to Kenny’s & to Mowers. Wrote Dot Talcott. Sent $90.00 car insurance. We went to city. Stopped to see Oren at hospital. Jim got western clothes.

Washed clothes. Merrill & Jim got hair cut at Theresa. Men went over to Kiechle’s in PM. Cool Have furnace fire. Jim went to Kenny’s in evening.

Beautiful day. Men painted on roof & trim. Washed & did all of ironing. Went over to Evelyn’s. Vern’s called. Gehm’s coming tomorrow on way home from Canada.

Sent in Reader’s Digest gifts. Gehm’s got here for supper. Merrill raked rest of straw. Jim painted roof. Gehm’s showed slides of trip. Howard & Evelyn here. Also. Toby Morrow & Larry Beerman. Toby here all night.

Men baled & drawed straw, 230 bales. Gehm’s left about 10:00. Also Toby. Washed. Uncle Ray & Aunt Maude here in evening.

Cool. We went to church. Jim & Toby went to cycle races at Heuvelton. Curt Van Tassel was here to see Jim.

Sent school taxes, $163.88. Sent $12.00 to Times. Sent for True Story. Wrote Vern’s. Canned pears. Jim went to city with Kenny. Got more western clothes.
