Bentley Corners school house burned last night. Mr. & Mrs. Sampson & 2 children lived there. Snowed some during night.

Wrote Vern & June. Got letter from Jim. I joined Bentley Corners Home Bureau. Went to luncheon meeting at Margaret Hudson’s.

Merrill put on storm windows at Carrie Thompson’s. Snowing in evening. Washed my hair. Slight headache. Jim weighs 165 pounds.

Joan was up. She is homesick. Snowed about 5 inches last night. Everything white. I went to church. Betty Haggerty called from Kiechle’s. Mrs. Hale, Carrie T., Lula R.,Vi, & I went to Bethune Cookman Choir concert at Asbury Church.

Washed clothes. Machine quit pumping. Merrill took Kettle’s blower home. Joan went to doctor in Rochester. Got letter from Jim.

Joan called. Dr. told her she was OK to go to school. Had strep throat. Wrote Jim, Eleanor. & Mom. I went to W.S.C.S. at Ruth Street’s. Merrill & I went to vote. Went to Gouverneur. I stopped to see Minnie Webb.

Merrill got 100 bales of straw @ 40¢ from Carleton Brown. I went up to bank. Washed kitchen walls. Got letter from Jim.

Rainy. Cleaned silverware. Merrill worked at Howard’s. Merrill & I went over to Hall’s & played cards in evening. Jim got first stripe. He is Airman 3rd Class.

I went to city for groceries. Did Xmas shopping. Billy Pike very bad, Cerebral hemorrhage. Merrill helped Howard. Went to Sears about washer. Evelyn got us 3 bushels of potatoes.

Drove on new road at Evans Mills that opened today. Merrill & I went to city. Got 2 new car wheels, $6.50. Got Xmas gifts. Merrill bought new die set, $25.00 at Sears. Repair man was here & fixed washer pump, $5.50. Moved it to kitchen. Got nice letter from Jim. Rainy.

Beautiful day. Didn’t go to church. I have headache & sore back.

Grand day & evening. I had Past Grands here. Minnie Webb of Gouverneur helped. 12 present. Merrill went to ABC meeting at Antwerp.

I went to Oxbow in PM with Ruth E. & Margaret H. for teasels for Home Bureau. I went to Theresa school with Evelyn & kids in evening.

I went to Rebekah’s. Nettie installed me as conductor as I wasn’t there for installation. Waxed dining room floors. Merrill worked at Carrie’s. Sent Ken’s card & letter.

We had all day Home Bureau meeting on Xmas decorations at Helen Pickett’s. Very nice. Nice day.

Ken & Eleanor’s 16th anniversary. I have headache. I went to city. Called Mom. Rebekah’s went in body to Arlene Reynold’s husband’s wake. Mary Hall went too.

Merrill & I went to city & bought both toilet & basin at Garn’s Supply, $60.89. Someone smashed Howard’s & Hank’s mail boxes. Got letter from Mom & Juanita.

Snowed 5 inches in Rochester area last night, none here. Haven’t had a letter from Jim this week. First week we haven’t heard from Jim. Merrill & I went to church.

Got 2 letters from Jim. He is A/3C now. Wrote Jim & Vernon & June. Sent Jim $5.00. Merrill working at Gonyea’s.

Got letter from kids. Are coming here for Christmas. Got birthday cards & letters from Ken’s, & Aunt Keitha. Varnished doors. Merrill worked at Gonyea’s.

I have headache. I went to Gouverneur for groceries in evening. Made salad & candy for tomorrow. Called Vern & June. Vern was away. Got lots of cards.

We went out home for Thanksgiving. Debbie & I celebrated our birthdays. Juanita’s mother’s sister Olita, James, & 2 girls were there also.

Merrill started working on bath drains. Nice day. Got letter from Jim. Got card from Fran. Have headache.

Ground covered with snow this morning. Merrill put in washer drain. Art, Doris, & kids were over in evening. Got letter from Jim. Called Joan. She quit Oswego College.

We went to church. Art & Doris & kids went with us. Came down here for dinner. A beautiful day.

Wrote Jim & Uncle Berle. Merrill worked on wash basin. Earl Mosher died suddenly about 5:15 PM. Has been sick since January 20th.

Another beautiful day. Merrill got washer hooked up again. I went to Gouverneur. Had car washed, oil & grease job. Wrote Mom & kids. Sent sympathy cards to Bea Hubbard & Leah S.

Washed, cleaned, waxed kitchen floor. Beautiful day, like summer. Got letter from Jim. Is leaving December 6th for home. Called Kenny & Joan.

Jim called from Houston, Texas. Is on his way home. Will be in Syracuse airport at noon tomorrow. Merrill boxed in washer pipes.

Merrill, Kenny Rudes, & I went to Syracuse to meet Jim. Got in at 1 :00 PM. Joan was here while we were gone. Left gifts for Jim & note to us. She is engaged to Jim Allen.

Jim slept until 10:30. I went to city in morning after groceries. Got Mirror, $3.99. Jim visited school. He went to basketball game at Philadelphia in evening. I had headache all day.

Got Christmas card from Dot Talcott. Sent package to Uncle Berle, tan sweater. Sent Lettie scarf. Jim went to wrestling at General Brown. Toby here for supper.

Merrill, Jim, & I went to church. We went out to Mom’s in PM. She has been to Dr. Reed. She has high blood pressure.

Past Grands Christmas party at Marguerite’s. Turkey dinner at 7:00. 17 present. Vi was my secret pal. I got Elsie Bacon for 1996. Evelyn P. was my old one. Snowing terrible in evening. Snow plow over.

Everything blocked with snow in north country. City has 3 feet. Baked pies, cookies, & candy. No plows over. Storming too hard.

Lodge Christmas meeting. Covered dish supper at 7:00 PM. Had a nice time. Lots of snow banks. Roads open but rough. I got milk glass vase. Vernon’s exam.

Jim & I went to city. Very stormy there. Stormed here in PM & evening. Kenny here all night. Jim got blue-jacket at Theresa, $10.00. Lawrence Hanson’s house caught fire.
