VE DAY Tuesday, May 8, 1945. Jimmy & I went up to Barkers. Vernon didn’t have to go to school only about 1/2 hour.

Sent card to Dr. Reed. Letter to Mother T. Merrill helped build fence at Johnny McDonald’s for young stock. Quite cold.

Snowing & cold. Had frost again during night. Got 104 baby chicks from Cox $15.00. Merrill & Jimmy went down to Fred Pitkin’s after them. Set up living room stove again.

Merrill got me box of writing paper. Have 2 inches of snow this morning. Jimmy is sick. Merrill went to Lacona in evening for groceries. Merrill got raise in wages last night. $125.00

Went to Lacona in evening. Got Vernon new shoes $2.75. Got table oilcloth. Sent $26.15 to Spiegel.

Got paper, perfume, book & pin for Mother’s day. Mary Stinson was over for dinner. Lost 3 of my chicks. Raining.
