Grandmother’s Diary…

Rained all day. Received letter from Angie.

Dorothy was down. Vernon had Halloween party at school. Road men finished sluice.

Washed lace curtains. Jimmy got ration book 3 in mail.

Stanley’s birthday (3 years) Father Tryon’s birthday. Shampooed my hair. Went over home in PM. Stopped at Marg’s for supper. Evelyn was here. Got potatoes. Dad got colts from Uncle Roy.

Washed clothes. Awfully windy. Buster was here. Made a chocolate cake. Gave $5.00 to War Fund. Paid Oren $10.00

Election Day. Sent for No. 4 Ration Book, gas book for washing machine, & letter to Marg. Raining. Went over & voted in afternoon.

Did Jimmy’s wash. Baked cake & cookies & pies. Got letter from Marg. Still raining.

Got kerosene. Dot, Evelyn & Hettie Rumsey was here. Aunt Edna & Uncle Ed’s house almost burned up.

Sent blank for gas to ration board.

Arlene was down. Vernon is ill. Merrill went to Lacona in evening. Got fan belt for car. $1.25

Went over home in PM. Stayed for supper. Merrill & Don came home & milked.

Received Jimmy’s ration book & bill from Dr. George $60.00. Merrill sold a skunk to W & C for $1.50. Washed clothes. Merrill got pay for 1 & 10th.

Sent $60.00 to Dr. George. Not feeling very well today.

2 inches of snow this morning. Went over home in evening. Merrill & Vernon & Dad went to Lorraine. Merrill & Vernon got hair cut.

No school or mail. Vernon, Jimmy & I spent the afternoon at Mary Stinson’s. Wrote letter to Aunt Edna.

Dot was down. Merrill, Vernon & I cleaned the back room upstairs. Jimmy had his first cereal (Cream of Wheat)

Received gas book for washing machine. Still snowing. Merrill & Lonny went over home & to Lorraine. Got 1/4 pork from Dad’s.

Merrill worked on Rudd barn. Ken was up for supper. Traded 4 roosters with mom.

Merrill put car in Barkers garage. Washed clothes. Machine quit. Arlene was here.

Evelyn was down. Took care of meat. Received card from Aunt Edna. They have moved. Vernon got new overshoes, mittens, pajamas, & shirt. Merrill underwear.

Sent order back to Wards. Pants & cap. Snow plow was over for first time. Angie’s birthday. Received letter from Marg. Snowed hard all day. Sent cards to Mom & Mary. Wrote Angie.

Mail man didn’t go by today. Merrill got drain working again.

Merrill cleaned stovepipes. Uncle Earle’s birthday. Vernon didn’t have to go to school because of conference. Made the first ice cream of the season. Shampooed hair.

Merrill got pay. Ethel’s birthday. Arlene & Dorothy was down. Received letter from Florence Yerdon & letter & card from Angie. Went over home at night.

My birthday (26 years) Mom gave me new dress & Vernon gave me mittens. Evelyn & Arlene were here.

Grandma Haggerty’s birthday. Snowed & blew in night. Merrill put on storm doors.

Evelyn, Arlene was down. Jimmy, Vernie, & I went up to Barkers in evening.

Vernon got out of school at noon. Merrill went over home in evening.

A grand day. Real warm. Mother, Dad, Ken & Don was up for dinner. Had roast chicken. Merrill & Dad fixed washing machine. Vernie went home with Dad’s. Dot was down.

Received letter & card from Marg. Vernon’s pants & cap came. Did Jimmy’s wash with machine. It worked good.

Rained & snowed today. Colder at night. Sent for cake to Wards. Merrill took a bath. Made fudge.

Went over home for dinner. Went down to Beulah & Glen’s [Congdon] in afternoon. Also stopped at Tryon’s. Vernon came home from Grandmas.

Dot was down. Washed clothes.

Received order from Spiegel. Got new shoes. Received cake from Wards. Wrote to Aunt Edna.

Warm & foggy. Evelyn was down. Sent back overalls. Baked pies & cake. Cleaned upstairs. Vernon was on the honor roll.

Merrill went to Adams.Went down to Marg’s. Stayed for supper. Roy brought us home. Our car isn’t working. Merrill got pay.

Cloudy & warm. Sent card & Journal to Mom. Got letter from Marg. Arlene was down.

Did Jimmy’s wash & got chicken ready to roast.

Evelyn & Clyde [Hammond] was here. Went over home in PM. Shampooed my hair. Oren was here.

Rained & snowed today. Washed clothes. Wrote letter to Angie. Roosevelt, Churchill & Stalin have disclosed news of the conference in Egypt.

Edith fell & sprained her ankle. Evelyn was down. Pearl Harbor Day 2nd anniversary. $1.00 toTimes. Paid up until April. Florence & Earl Yerdon & kids were here in evening.

Jimmy & I went up to Barkers in afternoon. Arlene came home with us.

Richard’s birthday. ReceivedTrue Experiences. Made cookies.

Roy’s birthday (41 years) Washed & ironed kitchen curtains. Snowing & blowing tonight. 15 ° below zero in evening. Merrill got pay.

Our wedding anniversary (8 years) Still real cold. Vernie not feeling so good. All have colds.

Vernon was sick in bed all day. Merrill got the kids tree. I decorated it. Ken has a new car.

Wrote letter to Mom. Vernon didn’t go to school. Still cold.

Merrill was home with a cold & earache. Laura died a year ago to day. Vernon didn’t go to school. Snowed, so we decided not to go to city. Louis Rockwood entered the sanitarium. Evelyn was down & brought Jimmy a doll.

Went to Watertown & Adams shopping. Left Jimmy at Moms. Saw Helen & Betty at city. Vernon didn’t go to school.

Alice’s birthday. Got Xmas cards ready to send. Lonny stopped in on way to woods. Nice day. Vernon went to school today.
