Grandmother’s Diary…

Florence, Earle & kids was over for dinner. Nice day. Made ice cream. Wrote to Loren.

Got lamp mantles. Sent $6.85 to Spiegel. Sent for play yard. Vernon sent birthday card to Louis. Louis is 7 years old today.

Dot & Evelyn was down. Got wall paper & paint.

A terrible windy day. Raining & snowing. Sent letter to Gloria.

Arlene was down. Washed my bedroom curtains. Quite nice today. Buster stopped on way to woods.

Sent letter to Mom & Ration Board. Vernon went up & had birthday supper with Arlene. Varnished bedroom rug & washed woodwork.

April Fools Day. Velma & Cherri, Marg were here for dinner. We went after car at garage in evening. ($22.35) Stopped at Aunt Mildred’s. Lonny took us down.

Jimmy is 7 months old today. Went over home for dinner. Stopped at Barkers on way home. Sally Kastler has scarlet fever. Ken gave me a picture of himself.

Loraine’s birthday (3 years) Jimmy got new play pen. Sent $13.27 to bank. Buster & Lonny were here. Merrill saw Allen Ramsey. Is home on furlough.

Received letter from Angie. Oren stopped on way to woods. Went to Lorraine in evening. Ran out of gas. Took Vernon over home. Mom has new couch.

Still quite cold. Lonny stopped on way to woods. Finished my ironing. Did bedroom curtains.

Sent letters to Francis, [Hamblin, friend of Oren Jr.] Loren, Aunt Edna, Mother Tryon. I have a cold. Sent a “V-Mail” letter to Francis. First one I ever sent.

Dot, Evelyn & Peggy were here in afternoon. Went to dance at Lorraine. Left Jimmy at Dads.

Arlene & Dot were down. Mother & Dad Tryon’s 38th wedding anniversary. Warm & raining today.

Easter. Went over home for dinner. Aunt Mildred & Uncle Berle were there. Also Angie’s & Grandma’s . Vernon came home. The twins are cute.

Cloudy, rainy day. Sent $5.00 toTimes. Went to Lorraine & Marg’s in evening. Sent $11.35 for battery. Sent box to Loren. Fruit cake, sugar cookies.

Snowed in PM. finished tearing off paper in dining room. Washed clothes. Got Easter card from Loren.

Raining. Vernon went back to school today. Sent for battery & [sent] letter to Ration Board. Evelyn & Hettie R. were here. Painted dining room.

Sent letter to Marg. Dot helped paper part of dining room. Was here for supper.

Got letter from Loren, also Ration Board. Did Jimmy’s wash. Finished papering dining room. Run out of paper. Bill White is home on furlough.

Not feeling too good. Have a cold & sore throat. Rainy. Arlene & Dorothy were down.

Went down to Ellisburg in PM. Stopped over home for supper & evening. Dorothy H. has had operation for appendicitis. Sent letter to her with Mom.

Washed clothes today. Got radio “A” battery $2.89 C.O.D. Nice day. Throat still sore.

Mother & Don were up in PM. Evelyn was here. Nice day.

Tore paper off of small living room. Sent letter to Loren & Ration Board.

Grand day. Painted radio room. Dorothy, Edith, & Mary Stinson were here. Merrill went with shirt off for first time this year. Watkins man [was here]

Raining. Got “B” gas coupons (5) Dot was down & helped me paper small living room. Was here for supper.

Dot & I finished papering radio room. Evelyn, Arlene, Oren & Dick were here. Merrill & Vernon went to Lorraine in evening. GotTrue Story & letter from Marg.

We went over to Dad’s in afternoon. Merrill & Dad looked at the Phillip’s farm.

Raining. Sent for dining room rug.

Still raining. Got letter from Angie. Got 15 peck of potatoes at store. 49 ¢.

Got letter from Loren & Florence. Dot, Dick, & Evelyn were here. Started cleaning living room.

Received card from Beulah C. Mom, Marg & Roy was up in evening. Mom took my wash home.

Went to Lacona for groceries in evening. Wrote to Florence.

Arlene was down in morning. Went to Lorraine in evening. Got Merrill a new work shirt.

Went up to Yerdon’s & had wax on snow. Stopped at Barkers. Merrill moved hen house. Dot was down. She gave Jimmy anklets.

Loren’s birthday. Vernon got me dish. Real warm. Painted dining room floor. Went to Lorraine & over home in evening. Wrote to Loren.

Sent last payment on car. Sent $1.50 toTrue Story. Card to Mom. Jimmy is 8 months old. Evelyn & Dot were here. Merrill got 1 bushel potatoes.

Mailman started going by. Painted living room & rug. Vernon didn’t go to school. Was sick. Evelyn & Arlene were here.

Edith, Evelyn, Dot & Buster were here. Started papering large living room. Got letter from Gloria.

Painted living room floor. Evelyn was down. Harwood [Yerdon] came over to stay all night with Vernon. First time Vernon has had any one stay with him. Went to Lacona in evening.

Jimmy’s cold is better. Raining. Harwood went home. Edith & Dot were down. Went over home in afternoon.

Washed clothes. Dot, Evelyn, & Buster were here. Got letter from Loren.

Raining again. Papered my hall. Don was up in evening.

Dot, Evelyn, & Arlene were here. Foggy & rainy in forenoon. Nice in afternoon.

Painted stair steps. Evelyn was here. Nice day.

Evelyn, & Arlene were here. Also Oren Jr. shampooed my hair. Went to Lacona in evening. Vernon got hair cut. Turned young stock out.

Thunder storms all PM. Sent order to Wards. Went to Lacona & Ellisburg in evening. Loren got home on 10 day furlough.

Mother’s Day. Merrill gave me box of candy. Went over home. Merrill plowed garden. Marg & Roy here for supper.
