Diary Entry for 4/11/2001

Cooler but sunny. I went to exercise class. Lidia took my prescriptions to store for me. They delivered them in PM. Vern has hernia operation at Oswego 10 AM. Free food give away at 5 PM. Coby Slate called about new tapes. I called Jill. She called me back to say Jim had just called her from hotel in Iowa. Joel has to see the doctor on Friday. Then they will start back home. I called Vern’s and talked with June. Vern’s operation went all okay.

Cloudy day. 55°. Vern called in AM. He’s a little sore but doing fine. Coby Slate brought me two church tapes and picked up the four I had. I played Pedro in evening. We only had two tables. Several folks away.

70° high. Flooding. Thunder storm early morning. Raining all day. Some sun. Exercise class 10 present. Dawn leaves for Myrtle Beach for a week. Sherri called and asked e to go to Maundy Thursday services tonight. It is a passion play and communion. Very nice and quite a few folks out to it.

Cooler. Very windy. Cloudy 53°. The rivers aren’t as high as expected but are over flood stage. Hope Johnston’s birthday. Lidia put balloons round the office door. I wished Hope a Happy Birthday.

A nice sunny day but wind is cold. Flooding not as bad as expected 49° high 27° low. Larry B planted bulbs in large flower box in back yard. Jill called from Jim’s. Jim and Joel got back at 5 AM this morning. Jill and Shane are going to church with me. They will all come here for dinner.

Partly cloudy but nice. Jill and Shane picked me up for church, Nice service. Communion. We had a lily on the altar in Merrill’s memory. Jim, Joel, Jill, and Shane here for dinner. Vern called in PM. Also Jolie.

Partly cloudy day. Bill Rich, and Debby working on lawn and flower gardens. I got a real pretty grandmother’s Easter card from Zack, Jolie, Shawn and Madison. June and Vern leave for Vermont. Will be home Wednesday.

Colder. Snowing in Buffalo. 49° high. 22° low. Exercise class. Five of us there. No leader. Dawn in Virginia Beach this week. Juanita called in evening. She is house sitting for Mike Rings this week while they are in Florida. Doreen and her family are in Washington, DC.

Nice day. Sunny. 45° high and 19° low. Jessie didn’t show up. Exercise class. Six out. Dawn still on vacation. I washed clothes in PM. Jim called at suppertime. He has been helping Nancy paint her dining room at Clayton today. Joel was at Jill’s.

Sunny. First summer-like day. The lawn is getting nice and green out back here despite the cold weather. Alice F called for prayer chains. Joy Schaefer’s mother. We had nice visit. I called Jessie. She was away but called me back later. Jill took me for groceries in evening. She brought me pictures of Madison from computer.

Warmer. Mostly sunny. Rain about 6 PM. I went for coffee and donuts at 10 AM. A large turnout. Jessie here to clean. My eyes not very good today. Lots of action at the summit meeting in Quebec. Jolie and Zack called. Jolie has been talking with Vicki over email.

A great day. Sunny. 69°. I went to church with Nash’s. We had Sunday school. My eyes bad today. It is in this morning’s Times that Allan Rockwood, 83, died yesterday at his home in Dexter. The Quebec Trade summit ends. 400 arrested. 46 police hurt.

The kind of day we have been waiting weeks for. I’ve had al my windows open. 80°. Sunny. Warm breeze. We ate lunch at Club House. Dr. Sanni 1:30. Lyla took me. Everything okay. Pressure 14 in right eye. 18 in left eye. I called Ethel Hanson Dunn. Allan died of cancer on his head by his ear. Margaret K called in evening.

Raining. Windy. Dark day. I went to exercise class. Dawn back from trip. Juanita called in evening. She says Ken has Alzheimer’s. Is in first stage. I didn’t go to Allan Rockwood’s funeral today at 11 AM.

Sunny and cool 55°. I washed clothes. Changed blankets and spreads on my bed. I talked with Lyla. Sherri called to see if I wanted to go with church to Shelby’s Sunday. I loaned her my bird book. I played Pedro in evening. Coby S here with church tape. Rev. Jane’s sister Patty died last week in Missouri.

A nice spring day. Sunny. I went to exercise class. Clark and Vivian Trises stopped in this AM. They got home from Florida last week. It was good to see them. Elgin and Carmi called from Canada. Both are well. I called Jim in evening. Joel still here.

Great day. Arbor day. A small plane crashed near Burrville. Pilot killed. Dr. Garnet Barashire, 43 years old. I received absentee school board ballot in mail. I went for walk in evening. Visited with Cora Carr in trash room. Used reading machine in library.

Nice but cooler. Shirley Davis saw three deer out back here this morning early. Kinney’s delivered my drugs. Got letter from Eye Center for appointment for Laser on my left eye. May 17 at 10 AM.

Sunny spring day. I went to church with Jim and Sherri. 87 there. 10 at Sunday school. We went to Shelby’s with 37 out to lunch/brunch from church. Nice. Jolie called at suppertime. I watched lived TV show “On Golden Pond” with Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. Great. It gets better with age. I called Vern in evening. Things are moving along for Dan and Robin. They have purchase offer on house in Oswego.

May Day! 80° great. Exercise class. I went. Dorothy J brought stuff to give out for VIP meeting. VIP Mike White guest entertainer. Good turnout. Bill mowed lawns for first time this year. Jolie called in PM. I walked to Stewards for milk.

Another like summer day. 85°. I got out the big fan and stored away the humidifier. Got out some summer clothes. I sent absentee school ballet. Jessie called. She came at 2 PM. We went to Big M store. Coby S brought me tapes in PM. I wrote letter to Jolie. I played Pedro in evening. Jill called in evening asking about Laurie Hanson. John B Johnson 1916-2001 died today. He was publisher of the Watertown Times for 52 years. He was a really great person.

Great weather. Sunny 85° Hot. I went to exercise class. 11 of us out. Ida Jane Northrupt joined. I called Vi. She is going to Julia’s for a visit. Lyla called. Elgin had called her. The Cloggers were here in evening. Very good. Good turnout. My cactus plant blossomed in evening with three beautiful blossoms. (white). Florence and Mae came in to see it. Former Mayor, Carl Burns, 72 funeral today.

Another summer day. Nice breeze. 74°. Florence Lee and Debbie here to see cactus blossoms. Marion C took pictures of it. I washed clothes in PM. Jim called in evening. He wants me to come for supper the first of the week. Joel leaves for home next week.

Cooler but a nice day. I went for coffee and donuts in morning. Jim Nash called to say we would be leaving for church at 9:15. They are to be greeters. The Kentucky Derby at 5 PM. Manarka won. 17 horses raced. 150,000 people there.

Perfect weather. I went to church with Jim and Sherri. Communion. I had a nice long visit with Marjorie Snell Caulins during fellowship time. Lyle’s wife. She is from Adams Center. Lyle was from Lorraine. Betty Schnauber was over in PM. She invited me to the Apollo with the on Tuesday. Joel called. He got acquainted with Ethel Hanson Dunn last night at the Legion Hall. Vern called. Dan and Robin in West Virginia are buying the one at 43 Burden Drive, Oswego. Kathy Tryon called. They are coming Saturday for lunch.

Great day. Folks working on the grounds all day. Garden looks great. I went to exercise class. 10 there. Dawn gave us cookies. I went to Apollo restaurant with Betty and Neal Schnaubr, Rev. Dora, and Gert S in evening as Betty’s guest. Very enjoyable. I got Mother’s Day card from Patty.

Sunny and warm. A little rain over night. I made fruit cocktail cake to take to Jim’s tonight. Coby S brought me tape in PM. Vern called in PM. They are coming Sunday PM o take me out to eat. June was out renewing her driver’s license. I went to Jim’s with Jill. Joel and Nancy there also. Jim and Joel had a mice supper. Jim has a real nice place. E has done a lot of work on it with more yet to do. We ran over a smelly skunk on the way home. Nancy almost hit a deer on 81 on her way there.

Nice day. Nice breeze. Water off at 6:30 AM until after 12 noon to flush pipes. I cleaned floors. I went to exercise class. Jim and Patty were married 32 years ago today. I called A. Cozzi Company about getting date of Merrill’s stone. $75 for just “2000”

Hot 80° 55° low. Cloudy in PM. I did some hand laundry and cleaned. I gave some food items for Postman’s food drive tomorrow. I talked with Esther and Ken in evening. The doctor has started Ken on Aricept pills (Alzheimer’s). They opened their flea market last Friday.

Raining finally. Just what is needed today. 45°. Steve, Katy, and girls here for lunch in PM. Kristen and Sarah are growing up so fast. Cute girls. Kathy brought salads etc for lunch. Steve needs glasses to read now. I got ham dinner from church. Last supper until fall. Jolie and Madison called in evening. Jim left for Washington DC with his biker club. They stay on Pennsylvania Avenue. “Road Dogs” Club.

Cool but nice day. I didn’t o to church. Joel stopped by in AM. He brought me nice card from Jim. June and Vern hot here about 1:30 PM. They took me to Shelby’s for dinner. Very nice. They also gave me 7 pens and nice GE electric can opener. Also good cookies. Sherri Nash called. Jill called in PM. Jolie called in evening. A very nice Mother’s and Grandmother’s day.

A great day. Sunny. I took my Harris Tweed winter coat to Granny’s attic. Also pair of white slacks. I bought 2 blouses at 50 cents each. Patty’s birthday. Kenney’s brought my drugs and milk. I got picture of Sarah in mail. Jim called in evening. He had nice trip to Washington DC with the Road Dogs. Joel left for Iowa last night. He got there in 14 hours.

Sunny and breezy. I called for bus tomorrow. Juanita called in morning. Nancy, Bill, Lori, and Nancy’s friend Helen Loomis on Mannsville stopped by. The Neals are from Kansas. Bill lost his job. Things are bad in Kansas also. Vern called. They are coming the 27th instead of the 20th. I played cards in evening. 3 tables. I played all three.

Cloudy but nice. Eye appointment. Laser on left eye. 10 AM. The pressure in my right eye is down to 10. Left if 16 today. I took bus to and from doctor’s. Pot luck supper at 5 PM. I took plate of cheese. A good turnout. Coby brought me church tape. I called Vern and June. We are going to Philadelphia next Sunday as Rev. Jane is going to be away on the 27th.

A few rain showers. Partly cloudy. Jessie here nine until eleven. We went to Big M store. I called Vi. She is going to Philadelphia with us next Sunday. I got card from Mable Hudson from Myrtle Beach, SC. Juanita called in evening. She is staying with Doreen’s kids this weekend while Doreen is at Girl Scout Camp. Debby is at Donnie’s now. Vi called in evening.

A great summer day. Vern and June came and took Vi and I to church at Philadelphia UMC. So great to get back there to church. They made us feel like celebrities. Lorraine Broncatello gave me flowers from her brother’s memorial. 83 folks were in church. 81 last Sunday. The young folks have earned their small organ and it was used for the first time today. Beth Jonson and Danielle Ambrose played it. Marge Heck is still on the big organ. We ate lunch at Philadelphia Restaurant. Then went to Calcium cemetery. They got red geraniums for lot and Vern set them out.

Cloudy all day. No rain yet. Hope is back from vacation and in the office. I called Jim about July 14 date for burial. Esther called to say we are having Rebekah’s on Wednesday.

Raining all day. It is badly needed. Windy all day. I went to exercise class. I called Lyla. I called A. Cozzi Company about our monument getting uneven. He says the cemetery association is in charge of that. We have perpetual care on lot. I called Olive Sharpe and some other women trying to find out the person in charge of cemetery. I called Jim. Also Esther.

Raining off and on all ay. I called Kenneth Gardner about cemetery rules. They dig this grave. $85. Rebekah’s. Vi and I went with Esther. Also Mary and Marie. We saw Madeline Miles at Mary’s. Eight of us at lodge. The district meet is June 6th. 7 PM. I talked with Jim. I went to Philadelphia Bank and got check cashed. I played Pedro in evening. I’m getting a cold.

A great day. They painted white stripes on parking lots. They moved cars to back lawn. I washed bed sheets etc Also washed bedspread. I’m coughing a lot today. My throat is scratchy.

Cloudy day. Some showers. My ribs sore from coughing. My throat not as sore Jolie called in evening. It is very hot there. Sherri called in evening. We had a nice visit. They are going to church conference next week.

A nice day. 73° high. 48° low. I didn’t go to church. I’m still coughing but my ribs quite sore. I put a silk flag on my door in memory of Loren and others who gave their lives for the USA. I called Elgin. They will come over June 9th. Jim called. Also Vern. He has finished their bedroom. Dan’s interview at the college went well.

Cloudy. A few showers. The phones not ringing. Working in the building. Ethel Hanson Dunn called me to say Clifford Carr, 88 died in his sleep last night. He was staying at Martha’s under the care of Hospice. Lyla called in PM. I called Jim in evening to tell him about Cliff.

Raining off and on all day and evening. Cooler. I went to exercise class. I called Esther and Ken in evening, but got their machine. I cooked the last of the rhubarb from Philadelphia that I had in the freezer. Tastes like fresh picked. Florence gave me some fresh given to her. I put it in freezer for later.
