Diary Entry for 5/31/1986

It rained some during night. Cloudy and cooler. Washed clothes. Merrill worked at Horton’s all day. Mowed some of lawn in evening. I baked apple and rhubarb pies. Cha family moved the last of their furniture.

We went to church, 43 there. Cobby Slate had service. Very good. Rev Collin at camp with youth. Merrill mowed lawns in PM. Thereunder storms a couple times in PM. Bad at city with wind and hail.

Clinic: Merrill 102/78 blood count is 16. Mine was 154/90 and blood count 12.5. Merrill went to Horton’s when we got home. I talked with Cheryl. Aunt Maude sleeps a lot. Mail stage coach with team of Clydesdale horses at Philadelphia.

We took Buick to Sunoco station for new brake lining, $32.25. Merrill worked at Horton’s in PM. Frieda here in PM. Got letter from Steve. He and Katherine have an apartment.

Merrill worked at Horton’s all day at Evans Mills. Meeting in evening on building houses back of our place. We went. A lot of planning work has already been done by a lot of people.

Father’s Day. We went to church, 57 there. Charles Blankenship and son John there. First he has been back in 12 years. Vern, June and Dan here. Took us out to Benny’s Steak House for dinner. Very nice.

Hot, cloudy and rainy. We went to Blue Cross office with copy of checks. First Pirates game this season canceled because of storm until Wednesday. Very stormy in evening. Strong winds, with lots of damage. The Cha’s here awhile.

A just great summer day. Merrill mowed the lawns. He helped Gary on garage siding in PM and evening. I washed clothes. Jim, Joel, and Jill here on way home from Portaferry. Adam Matteson here for pledge for MS.

Jim goes to Portaferry for MAZE program. Colder and windy but sunny. I called Gladys Adams. Rebekah’s, last meeting until fall, 5 there. Ginny Delles retired today from Woolworth’s. They gave her a big party.

June’s 48th birthday. We went for groceries in AM. Sent graduation card and $10 check to Susan Ridsdale. Merrill had Buick inspected at 1 PM. We have driven it 6363 miles in two years. Cobby sent for robe for minister, $224. Got graduation invitation from Lynette Tryon. June R here in evening.

9 AM church service, 47 out. We went to Kiechle’s, Perin’s, and Ben’s in AM. Went to Slates in evening. A just beautiful day. I called Gladys Adams. We had picnic supper in back yard.

Church at Mills, 10 AM Ordination reception for Rev’s Collin and Kathy after service. Covered dish. All very nice. About 90 there. We went to parade of the bands afterwards. Jolie marched with Sackets Harbor. We went over to Aunt Maude’s in the evening.

Administrative Council at 7:30. I have devotions. Merrill went. I didn’t go. School vote passed. 9 million dollar budget. We voted on school budget. Went to store and paid water bill, $50. Vern, June, Don, and Bea here for supper. Bea not too good. Vern still has his eye infection. Saw Dr. Scanlon.

We went to city. Went up to park and ate lunch from Burger king. Hot today. Got white paint at Sears. Leslie called in evening. His daughters are coming to see him on the 27th. He hasn’t seen them since they were small.
