Church at 11. Judy Van Tassel Sunday School Superintendent. We started Sunday School. Aunt Maude also. Tracy had 9 in his class. 34 to Sunday School and 44 out to church. Good to be back at later time. Vern called in morning. They came for super. Had their 1983 Chevrolet Cavalier. Nice. They went to reception for District Superintendent, Allison Wood, in evening.

Called phone company for private line. Extra $2.06 per month. Coming Friday. Harry and Frieda Kent renewed wedding vows, 35 years, at church. Had a surprise reception for them after. 26 there. Very nice. Merrill worked at parsonage in PM. Also helped Carl fix chain on haybine. Lost his wallet, but found it.

Much colder today. We voted in primaries in PM. Carl Horton here for wrenches to fix haybine chain. Cutting hay by Collins. Only up to 65° all day. Down to 40° overnight.

Cliff Hamilton finally brought load of wood that was ordered June 21st. $210 this year. Merrill paid fuel bill at gas station. Rebekah’s first fall meeting, 11 out. Carrie Thompson there with Esther Taylor. Went up to Jerry Dellis’. He will take Sunday School papers.

I took my coat over to Vivian’s to be shortened. We went for groceries. Merrill worked at wood.

We went to city and out to Don’s. Went to Roy’s. Good to see everyone. A new family moved into the red house. David and Laurie cook and son Aaron from Holkins Road.

We went to Sunday School, 40 out and church, 48. Rev.Barnes, and Art’s, and Medeline Miles in church also. Jim’s here for dinner. Rained in PM and evening.

Hot 88°. Wrote Vern’s. Sent him card and $5.00. Merrill cut wood. Merrill went down to Ridsdale. We got notice on her check from bank “no funds”. June will have milk plant (Crowley’s) mail us our check each month starting in October. [entry crossed out]

Vern’s 47th birthday. Cloudy and windy. Merrill went over to bank. They started laying brick siding in Chase Harrington Manor. Raining in PM. Made apple pies. Bob Griffin called to say he is resigning all his church offices.

Merrill went to Agway for frozen peas. We went for groceries. Merrill cut wood. Glen Brady stopped by for awhile in evening.

Wrote Uncle Berl. Merrill cut wood. I washed clothes. Merrill called Robbins to clean our furnace and one at parsonage. I got my coat from Vivian, $4.00. Merrill called Harry McKeever about repairing parsonage chimney.

Sunday School Paper Drive. Merrill helped. A nice day. UMW District Meeting at Sandy Creek. No one from Philadelphia went.

We went to Sunday School, 38, and church, 49. Jennifer Drake 4 started going to Sunday School with us. Patty called. We went down there for PM and supper.

Cloudy and rainy. Merrill worked at wood. Rev.Salisbury left for Pastor’s School at Watson Homestead, Horseheads, NY. Carl called. Jim went to see him in evening. Noreen does not want Treasurers job at church.

Merrill cut wood. A great day. In 70’s. Partly cloudy some in morning. Merrill went down to Ridsdale’s in evening. She couldn’t pay him.

Rebekah’s election of officers. Zelda NG, Leah VG. Roy came in morning. Stayed all night. Marg and Roy went up to Jerry Dellis’ and over to Lila and Jim’s. Lila scalded her stomach.

Washed. Jerry Dellis here. Can’t take Sunday School papers as fuel pump broke on his truck. Called paper mill. Merrill finished cutting up wood. Got it the 14th. Merrill paid school tax, $374.13. Went to bank. Sent Bea Gehm card and note.

Merrill mowed lawns. He went to dump in PM and cleaned church. Wrote Steve. I called Audrey. We walked down to housing project in evening.

Another beautiful day, 75°. We went to Sunday School, 34 and church, 34. Sunday School had a brunch. We stopped at Aunt Maude’s for dinner. Delicious dinner.

Merrill painted rest of storm windows both black and white. i dyed long skirt and 3 blouses black. Another great day. The leaves are starting to fall off trees.

Merrill finished putting on storm windows. Rained some during the night. We went to city in AM. Got new phone at Nichols. Got plastic table cloth for dining room. June R here in evening. Paid us 2 farm payments.

Bea Gehm’s birthday. Rainy. Merrill went to bank and store. Canned carrots, 7 quarts. Art and Doris Haggerty’s 31st anniversary.

We went for groceries. Got letter from Vern’s. Rained on and off all day. UMW at Margaret Kiechle’s. Doris and I on committee. Cider and donut holes, 13 present.

We had a 5.2 earthquake at 6:20 AM. No damage. Wrote Vern’s. Merrill helped load Sunday School papers. I called folks for food for Bell family who lost baby. Merlin Shorkey brought over quart of mayonnaise in evening so I could make potato salad.

Took sunday School papers to Carthage, 4 ton. Town truck took them. Lloyd Dellis drove. Wrote Uncle Berl and sent him quake news clipping. Judy and Jane took food to Bell family. Merrill went down to June’s in PM to work on barn cleaner. Got card from June.

Merrill went to Sunday School and church, 55 out. I was dizzy with upset stomach so stayed home. Nice day but cool. Ginny stopped in on way to lodge practice. Merrill went over to Cooper’s for papers

Columbus Day holiday. First hard white frost this season last night. Patty and kids here. Jim on bike in mountains. Donut day for church choir. Patty, Jean, and I got 5 dozen. Got times but no mail. Rebekah’s Assembly President at Philadelphia, 86 present. I didn’t go.

Lila Ashley’s birthday. Don Gehm’ had cataract operation in Florida. There was another earthquake at 12 AM. 3.8 on scale. Merrill cut his finger bad. We took phone back to city. Merrill and Bill went to funeral home for Rose Melrose. I went to pension meeting at Asbury Church with Rev.Salisbury. Vern & June there. World Series starts. Doris Haggerty’s birthday. Merrill put new glass in window at CEC. He worked at Horton’s in PM. I washed white clothes. A nice day but cold. Barbara and Kevin Drake bought Preston’s house this week. Cathy Par (?) went to hospital by ambulance. Break down.

40th anniversary party for Garmon and Pauline at Lowville. We went. Aunt Maude went with us. We went to Sunday School and church. Rev. Sabin, Clayton, preached. Rev. Salisbury at Clayton. 37 out. Nice day but cold. Baltimore Orioles won series over Philadelphia Philly’s.

Nice day. Washed. Merrill went to Wilson’s and over town. He fixed parsonage door and put in cellar window. He worked at Horton’s in PM. Evelyn and Howard Hall called. They want Merrill to plow for them.

A beautiful summer day. We moved plants inside from porches. We have a bees nest in the cellar. Merrill worked at Horton’s all day.

Aunt Maude’s 78th birthday. Mary Hall’s birthday also. I talked with both. Merrill worked at Horton’s all day. I made cookies. Got letter from June. Down to 20° overnight.

We went for groceries in morning. Merrill helped cover corn pile at Horton’s in AM. Merrill cleaned chimney and started first wood fire this fall. Feels great.

Steve got here about 4 PM. Vern’s came about 6 PM. Merrill worked at Horton’s.

I called Jim’s. We all celebrated Steve’s 19th birthday. Kids played in leaves. Got letter from Uncle Berl.

Rev. Salisbury on vacation. Fort Drum chaplain, Burger preached, 33 out. We went to Sunday school and church. Steve also. John Shorkey picked Steve up at 6 PM to go back to Potsdam. A lazy day. 167 Marines killed over nigh in Burut. Bombed.

Raining in morning. Merrill went to Hall’s in PM but they were all away. He stopped at June’s. He put wood down cellar. Cindy M here with Avon. I got my birthstone earrings from her. I called Keith Rudes about TV.

Steve’s 19th birthday. Marty Paro’s 14th birthday. Wrote Melba and Elmer. Merrill left at 8 AM to plow Hall’s. Got home at 5:30. Marty, his aunt, and cousin here. Ordered calendar from Darcy. Washed clothes. I called Mrs.K. Hall at Mills. Got note from Pauline R.

Merrill worked at Hall’s all day. We went to PPR meeting at Evan’s Mills in evening.

Sent order to Wards for navy nylon coat for Merrill, $43.66. Robbins boys cleaned furnace. Snow at Canton this morning. Wrote letter to Times about Today Show. We had meeting on pension and finance committee meeting. 8 present at parsonage.

Merrill worked at Hall’s all day. Windy but nice. Robbins men came after tools they left here and at parsonage. Keith Rudes came for TV. Kathy and boys got home to stay. Gone two weeks tomorrow. Our leaves fell and blew away.
