Diary Entry for 7/24/1983

Thunder and showers early in morning. Went to church, 49 out. Percell baby baptized, Sheri and Jim’s. Elgin called about 8 AM. He, Olive, Carmine, and Wilamina came over for dinner. Aunt Maude here also. All are well. Thunder storm in PM.

Dr. Scanlon, 1:30. Everything okay. Don’s birthday, 60th. We went to Sackets for girls. Patty’s father is deputy sheriff in North Carolina now. Patty’s brother Bob and family coming Friday.

I sent claim to Medicare for Dr. Scanlon. Renewed Times, and Country News. Hot and muggy. Merrill and Carl Taylor worked all day at parsonage windows. Kids and I went to diner for ice cream.

Raining. Hot and muggy. Rained most of night. We went for groceries in AM. Merrill and Carl Taylor worked at parsonage in PM. Merrill got hair cut. Rained terrible at Theresa but none here in evening.

Merrill went to Evans Mills for shingles for parsonage roof. He and Bill Mowers put them on. I cleaned cupboards. Very hot and humid. Gary Belile has a new pickup truck. Black and red.

Merrill and Bill finished roof at parsonage. Carl Taylor worked also. Merrill went down to June’s. Helped change hay rope over. She paid him June payment. Got letter from Vern’s. June may have sugar. Also more breast lumps.

We moved here 5 years ago today, 1978. We went to church, 37 out. Hot and muggy. No company today. Sat in back yard all day. Beulah Macklin’s 60th birthday. John Wesley White revival opened in Ice Arena. 1500 first night

45° during the night. A great day but cool. They spread more concrete on housing project. We went to Karen Hanson’s clarinet and voice recital at Trinity Church Watertown. Excellent. Aunt Maude went with us.

Nice day. Washed clothes. Merrill ran cleaner. Patty, Audrey, and kids here for lunch,. Joel and Jill stayed out. Had painting bee at church. Jim Houghton, Carl Taylor, Harry, Ken, and Merrill. I went over to Kathy’s.

Thunder storm during night. Merrill paid Joe for fixing car, $35.00. Merrill got hub cap like one we lost. We went for groceries. Very hot and muggy. Got $20 refund from Medicare. Got jury questionnaire to fill out.

Washed. Foggy in morning. We called at Eggleston’s in PM. Raining again. Sent for Blue Cross $5.00 refund. Vern’s on trip with youth group to Philadelphia, Washington, etc. Left at 7:30 this morning.

Week long State Fireman Convention ends with a parade today at city. We went to church, 33 out. We went to Sackets in PM to Battle of 1812 doings. Had supper with Patty and kids. Jim left today on canoe trip in Adirondacks for week. Rev. Salisbury here in evening.

June and Vern’s 23rd anniversary. They got here about 12:30. Gave them card and $25 for anniversary. They took Steve to Potsdam in PM. Came back about 8 PM and spent night. Had thunder storms in PM. Muggy all day, but cooler in evening.

Vern’s left after breakfast. They planned to go to State Fair at Syracuse. We went to church, 32 there. They had a tornado at Ellisburg yesterday. Terry and Barb Mc K in accident at Antwerp last night. Jim’s here for supper. Jim rode his bike from city out here.

We went down to Hall’s camp in AM. Stopped at Fays on the way for eye drops. Made lemon pie to take. We stayed all night. Zellar’s and Terry’s there also. Hal and Kim there for lunch. Great time.

Jim’s 40th birthday. Got State tax $374.15. Glenn Ridsdale here. They are meeting with their lawyer’s to settle things. Merrill mowed lawns. Merrill went over town. I called telephone company about buying phone. Last game of Pittsburgh Pirates at Fairgrounds. Broke attendance record, 76,232.

We went to church, 30 there. Nancy Quick’s brother there with Shari Heck. Shari and Sina sang. Nice. June Ridsdale here in PM. MD Telethon starts this evening. We walked down to look over Senior Citizen projects.

Clinic: Merrill’s blood pressure 123/72 and blood count 16.2. Mine 158/88 and blood count 14. School starts today. Marty and Darcy stopped by before and after school. Marty and Darcy’s first year at high school.
